As Regulatory Affairs Counsel, you will oversee regulatory response activities and provide legal and compliance support to ensure alignment with federal and state requirements. You will collaborate with internal teams to manage examinations, improve compliance processes, and support ongoing regulatory readiness.
- Manage and coordinate responses to regulatory examinations, audits, and information requests from federal and state agencies.
- Conduct independent research and analysis to support compliance with applicable mortgage lending laws and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with compliance leadership to develop examination preparation strategies and remediation plans.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to collect, review, and organize documentation and data required for regulatory reviews.
- Track examination findings, corrective action plans, and remediation activities to ensure timely completion.
- Review, update, and develop policies and procedures based on regulatory changes, audit feedback, and business needs.
- Provide regular updates and recommendations regarding examination matters, compliance risks, and regulatory priorities.
- Support additional legal and compliance initiatives as assigned.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented legal and compliance professional with experience in mortgage lending regulations and regulatory examination processes. You should be comfortable analyzing complex requirements, collaborating with multiple stakeholders, and providing clear guidance in a changing regulatory environment.
- 3+ years of mortgage lending experience, including at least 1 year focused on regulatory examinations, audits, or compliance reviews.
- Experience managing or supporting regulatory examinations involving state regulators, the CFPB, or other prudential regulatory agencies.
- Strong understanding of consumer mortgage lending laws and regulations, including TILA/Regulation Z, RESPA, ECOA, HMDA, and applicable state requirements.
- Experience working with loan origination systems; Encompass experience is preferred.
- Strong legal research, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex regulatory topics clearly.
- Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Adaptability and confidence navigating evolving regulatory environments.
- Strong collaboration skills with legal, compliance, and business stakeholders.
