Job Description

Production Technician - $18.00/hr

Department: Warehouse Operations
Reports To: Production Supervisor / Warehouse Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Employment Type: Full-Time/Morning-Night

Position Summary

The Production Technician is responsible for preparing, processing, repackaging, labeling, and inspecting fresh produce to meet customer-specific specifications for schools, restaurants, healthcare facilities, and other foodservice customers. This position transforms bulk products received from farms and vendors into customer-ready products while maintaining product quality, food safety standards, production efficiency, and inventory accuracy. The Production Technician plays a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality products that meet Brothers Food Service's operational and customer expectations.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare, process, repack, label, and package fresh produce according to customer specifications and company quality standards.
  • Break down bulk produce received from farms, growers, and vendors into customer-ready products.
  • Inspect produce for freshness, quality, appearance, damage, spoilage, and overall product integrity.
  • Remove damaged, spoiled, or non-conforming products from production.
  • Follow production schedules, product specifications, and packaging requirements to meet customer orders and production goals.
  • Maintain accurate product labeling, packaging, and product identification.
  • Follow First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory practices during production activities.
  • Maintain production quotas while ensuring product quality and accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary production work area, equipment, and tools.
  • Properly clean and sanitize workstations, production equipment, and food contact surfaces according to company food safety procedures.
  • Report equipment issues, product quality concerns, food safety concerns, or production discrepancies to leadership.
  • Comply with company safety policies, food safety standards, sanitation requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and warehouse operating procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with Warehouse, Receiving, Transportation, and Operations teams to support efficient customer order fulfillment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year of production, warehouse, food manufacturing, foodservice, or related experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of food safety, sanitation, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to accurately follow production instructions, product specifications, and packaging requirements.
  • Basic reading, math, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated, cooler, freezer, and warehouse environments.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs require.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with fresh produce or perishable food products preferred.
  • Previous production, food manufacturing, packaging, or repacking experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of produce quality standards and spoilage identification preferred.
  • Experience using production equipment, scales, label printers, or packaging equipment preferred.
  • Experience using RF scanners or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) preferred.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Prolonged standing, walking, and performing physical work throughout the workday.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling products weighing up to 50 pounds independently and up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, reaching, twisting, climbing, and performing repetitive movements throughout the workday.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for sorting, inspecting, preparing, packaging, labeling, and handling fresh produce.
  • Working in dry, cooler, refrigerated, and freezer environments.
  • Exposure to wet work areas, food products, water, and FDA-approved cleaning and sanitation chemicals.
  • Wearing and properly using required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position.

Employees work in a food production and warehouse environment and may be exposed to dry, cooler, refrigerated, and freezer storage areas, food production equipment, moving warehouse equipment, moderate to high noise levels, and wet work surfaces. Strict adherence to workplace safety, food safety, sanitation, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and company operating procedures is required.

Schedule Expectations

This position may require morning, evening, or overnight shifts and may include weekends, holidays, overtime, and flexible scheduling based on operational and customer needs.
