Yellowstone Club’s Golf Maintenance department is currently seeking candidates for a Golf Course & Winter Maintenance Operator. This is a full-time year-round position located in Big Sky, Montana.

The Golf Course & Winter Maintenance Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of year-round property and recreational maintenance, split between winter season and summer golf course maintenance. Winter responsibilities include snow removal, terrain grooming, and ice rink maintenance. Summer responsibilities focus on golf course turf care, landscaping, and irrigation repair. Operators must monitor weather conditions and be prepared to respond promptly to weather events or seasonal demands, which may require working early mornings, late nights, weekends, or holidays

Essential Job Functions:

  • Operate a variety of equipment, including snowplows, spreaders, snow blowers, and ice resurfacing machines (e.g., Zamboni), to clear and maintain winter surfaces.
  • Perform routine snow removal on designated roads, driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, and walkways to ensure safe passage.
  • Apply de-icing agents like salt, sand, or brine to treat surfaces and prevent ice buildup.
  • Groom snowshoe and cross-country trails using snowmobiles with specialized attachments (e.g., tillers, blades) to maintain high-quality snow conditions.
  • Maintain ice rinks by resurfacing, edging, cleaning, and repairing the ice surface to specified standards.
  • Assist with the construction and breakdown of ice rinks.
  • Operate specialized turf equipment, including fairway mowers, greens mowers, aerators, and utility vehicles, to maintain optimal playing conditions.
  • Perform daily course setup (moving cups, changing tee markers), bunker raking, string trimming, and divot repair.
  • Assist with fertilizer or turf treatments in summer.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety procedures and protocols, including the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to meet deadlines and respond to emergency situations.

Experience/Education Required

  • Experience operating heavy equipment: Proven experience with commercial equipment such as mowers, tractors, snowplows, front-end loaders, snowcats, and ice resurfaces is strongly preferred. On-the-job training may be provided.
  • Physical stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods, such as shoveling, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • Adaptability: Must be able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays, and adapt to changing weather conditions and work schedules.
  • Communication skills: Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.

Certificates & Licenses

  • Valid driver's license: A clean driving record is required
  • Pesticide Application License: Preferred; not required

Reasoning Ability

  • Mechanical aptitude: Basic knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance, including the ability to perform pre-trip inspections and light repair work.
  • Strong attention to detail: Ability to maintain high precision while operating machinery to protect turf surfaces in summer and ensure safe passage in winter.

Work Environment

  • Outdoor Conditions: Work is performed primarily outdoors in all types of winter weather, including snow, wind, and extremely cold temperatures, which may drop as low as -30°F, as well as, hot summer days.
  • Variable Hours: The work schedule is variable and dependent on weather events and golf course play schedules, requiring early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Team-Oriented Culture: The operator works as part of a close-knit team where communication, reliability, and support for fellow team members are critical for safety and success. Operators must be capable of working both independently and collaboratively to achieve operational goals.

Physical Demands

The position requires standing, walking, bending, and kneeling on uneven, icy, or snowy terrain. Employees must be prepared for extended periods of machine operation and some physical labor, including lifting heavy objects.

Compensation: $24-27 / hr. D.O.E.
