Job Description

Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Department: Facilities

FLSA Status: Nonexempt hourly
POSITION PURPOSE:
This position assists in the maintenance operations of the Indiana Historical Society (IHS).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Perform light maintenance and/or repairs including painting and minor carpentry work.
  2. Perform routine cleaning.
  3. Conduct facility and grounds inspections.
  4. Provide basic landscape and grounds care.
  5. Move equipment and large parcels throughout the facility.
  6. Assist with program/event set-up, clean-up, and tear-down.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  1. Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  2. Operational knowledge, or willingness to learn, small engine equipment.
  3. Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time.
  4. Ability and willingness to work indoors and outdoors.
  5. Ability to flex schedule for seasonal needs-working evenings, early mornings, and weekends as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Climbing & Balance – Ability to safely climb and work from a ladder.
Physical Movement – Stooping, Bending, Kneeling, and Crouching In order to reach & pick up items.
Standing – Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
Strength – Ability to lift & carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid driver’s license and auto insurance, three years of applicable experience

SCHEDULE:
Position is no more than 20 hours/week, with some flexibility on days and times worked. Periodic weekends and evenings will be required and communicated in advance when possible. Event schedules, like providing event support to our summer concert series on Thursday evenings is known well in advance but position would also assist with any grounds needs as a result of weather, which could not be communicated in advance.

COMPENSATION:
Pay is $20/hour, merit increase eligible every anniversary.
