Job Description
Reports to the Director, Oncology Services. Responsible for supervising the work of the Radiation Oncology clinical and support staff, ensuring high quality patient care and efficient day-to-day operations of the department. Assists with the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures to improve quality and efficiency as well as the coordination, support and oversight of BMG Radiation Oncology providers.

Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Radiation Oncology departments by:
- Participating in the development and implementation of short- and long-term goals and objectives for the department.
- Assisting the Director with the development of the annual budget and with administration of the budget to meet agreed upon goals and objectives.
- Assisting with the development, implementation and enforcement of departmental policies, procedures and standards for quality and efficiency.
- Scheduling and assigning workload to the staff (giving particular consideration to the priority of patients' needs), re-establishing priorities, adjusting schedules and reassigning work as necessary.
- Interviewing, evaluating, and, when necessary, counseling or disciplining staff as directed.
- Ensuring that the staff is provided with appropriate educational opportunities in order to maintain and advance their competencies, in conjunction with the Medical Director. Also providing a comprehensive orientation and training for new staff.
- Assuming administrative responsibility of the department in the absence of the Director.
- Ensuring that the accreditation standards established by various regulatory bodies (i.e., JCAHO, State Board of Health, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, etc.) are maintained.
- Upholding strong billing/coding/documentation practices with goal of eliminating denials and a building strong revenue cycle process.
Makes regular patient care rounds to ensure radiation therapy procedures are properly implemented and oversees patient treatment by:
- Maintaining the department's quality assurance program including reviewing charting, reading physician prescriptions and interpreting quality of charting as related to radiation therapy prescription.
- Serving as a technical resource to staff with regard to treatment and equipment.
- Evaluating patient positioning and treatment procedures and suggesting improvements to Therapists.
- Conferring with physicians, nurses, therapists and others on the patient care team regarding difficult or unusual cases.
- Ensuring quality improvement of patient treatment including machine records, chart checks and spot-checks of setups, office and scheduling operations and nursing quality in conjunction with the Radiation Oncology Nurse(s) as well as overseeing Radiation Oncology QA committee.
- Assists with resolving operational problems arising between Radiation Oncology and other Hospital departments.
- Ensuring that appropriate records are maintained for services provided.
- Ensuring necessary supplies and equipment are available to meet the needs of the area.
- Participating in clinical and support duties as necessary.
Maintains knowledge, managerial skills, and competence in areas of responsibility by:
- Accumulating required continuing education credits to remain in good standing by the appropriate certification bodies.
- Attending in-services and attending conferences as approved.
- Maintaining professional affiliations as appropriate.
- Reading current professional journals and literature.
Contributes to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Radiation Oncology Departments by:
- Meeting with technical and service staff on a regular basis to address their questions/concerns and upholding high employee engagement satisfaction.

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.
Education and Experience
The knowledge, skills and abilities are normally acquired through the successful completion of an accredited radiation therapy educational program and/or a bachelor's degree in an oncology related field. Strong preference to be certified in good standing in radiation therapy technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). A minimum of five years' experience in radiation therapy or oncology is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of three years previous supervisory experience.

- Demonstrates the leadership and management skills necessary to effectively manage the day-to-day operations of the Radiation Oncology Departments.
- Demonstrates the interpersonal skills necessary to elicit cooperation and support from others, and to interact tactfully with patients, physicians and other staff members

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Patient care area requiring excessive walking, standing and the ability to communicate and visually monitor the patient during treatment.
