Situated within the shared, unceded territory of the L̓il̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat People) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish People), the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is a vibrant destination resort community, local government organization and leader in providing municipal programs, services, progressive planning and infrastructure. The Communications department of the Community Engagement and Cultural Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Digital Communications Specialist. Reporting to the Manager of Communications, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly, starting January 15, 2027, ending January 15, 2028, with the possibility of an extension to July 15, 2028.

This position performs specialized communications and technical work to contribute to the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the RMOW’s digital presence. Working as a member of the Communications team and a broad network of internal and external stakeholders, the Digital Communications Specialist enhances the delivery, accessibility, and effectiveness of online communications related to municipal programs, services, and information. Serving as one of the organization’s digital engagement leads, this role provides strategic advice, guidance, and support to staff in the planning and implementation of digital engagement activities, using the RMOW’s engagement platform and other digital communication tools. The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of municipal website and integrated communications and engagement technologies, working closely with a contracted web developer and providing direction to departmental content contributors. The position is heavily focused on project management and requires excellent analytics understanding, particularly on the Google platform.

Qualified candidates possess completion of post-secondary education in a related communications discipline with at least 3-5 years of experience in a similar role including complex website management, digital analytics, digital transformation, project management and the regular use of content management systems. This role requires the ability to analyze and synthesize large volumes of information and data to support communication strategies and achieve overall objectives using technical expertise, and commitment to continuous learning to identify emerging digital trends and best practices.

The successful candidate is an experienced and skilled writer with strong demonstrated knowledge and experience with communications planning, content development and strategy. The successful candidate is proficient in Google Analytics, Microsoft 365, basic code, and search engine optimization, with the ability to learn new and changing technologies. The successful candidate demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace while contributing to a positive environment. The starting wage for this role is $45.78 per hour.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract and a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
