Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
The Lead Clinical Dietitian is responsible for ensuring high-quality nutritional care for both inpatients and outpatients. This includes conducting comprehensive nutritional assessments and evaluations, providing dietary recommendations based on findings, and offering counseling and educational guidance to patients. They design, oversee, and continuously update individualized nutrition care plans, making necessary adjustments and monitoring progress. Additionally, the Lead Clinical Dietitian implements nutrition therapy orders, ensuring proper execution while observing and evaluating patient adherence, acceptance, and tolerance of prescribed nutrition therapy. Regular reassessments help refine treatment plans to meet patients’ evolving needs. Beyond direct patient care, the Lead Clinical Dietitian also manages the planning and administration of the nutrition office, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to best practices.
Key Responsibilities for the Registered Lead Dietitian:
- Lead and provide expert nutritional care in a patient-centered, systematic, and holistic approach.
- Act as a resource for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of nutritional guidance.
- Promote ongoing improvement in care practices by committing to personal development and guiding staff in continuous learning.
- Serve as a mentor, preceptor, and resource to other team members, offering direction on clinical practices and professional growth.
- Participate in additional duties as needed to support the goals of the department.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or related field.
- A Master’s Degree in Nutrition or related field is preferred.
- Must hold a current, valid, and active license and/or certification to practice as a Registered Dietitian in the respective state.
- Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is required.
- At least three (3) years of clinical experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
- Experience in clinical teaching as a clinical preceptor is preferred.
Additional Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of contemporary dietetics principles and practices.
- Familiarity with hospital food service safety and sanitation standards is a plus.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
- Understanding of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
- Strong skills in organization, prioritization, and analysis.
- Ability to make sound independent decisions when necessary.
- Proficiency in computer systems and software relevant to job duties.
