  • Job Description
    • To provide excellent customer service in all tasks.
      Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Answer phone lines courteously in accordance with departmental procedure; Assist physicians, all UMC staff, agencies and other customers with medical record retrieval, completion and review; Complete each step in the process of the medical chart such as pick up, prepping, scanning, quality control and validation; Complete Release of Information requests in accordance with laws and regulations governing the disclosure of protected health information: Understand and implement HIPAA in all situations; Analysis of charts to determine deficiencies; Any and all tasks related to the medical record. Meet quotas and quality standards set by the department

  • Physical Capabilities
    • Primarily sitting and / or walking; some lifting of records; some pushing of carts; able to work on a computer for several hours.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrate a knowledge of computers; Possess ability to communicate with UMC staff, physicians, and all other customers; Demonstrate appropriate telephone etiquette; Possess the ability to understand and follow procedures for medical record completion; Demonstrate the ability and willingness to adapt to ongoing change, i.e., process and/or schedule changes to accommodate the evolving needs of the department; Demonstrates effective use of all computer programs used in HIM; Demonstrates the ability to prep, scan, perform quality control and validate both inpatient and outpatient charts as well as loose work; Demonstrate the ability to shift from one task to another as assigned by the supervisor; Uses AIDET consistently when assisting customers.
