Qualifications
Degree/Education: Certification, graduate from a medical assistanttraining program. At a minimum, the medical assistant program must besponsored or recognized by an educational institution which is accredited by U.S.Department of Education (DOE) located at ope.ed.gov. Not required, butpreferred, the medical assistant program is accredited by the Commission onAccreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); the AccreditingBureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES); the American Association ofMedical Assistants (AAMA); or a formal medial services training program ofthe United States Armed Forces and /or a formal medical services trainingprogram of the United States Armed Forces.
Certifications: Certified MedicalAssistant Only: Current certification as a medical assistant by the AmericanAssociation of Medical Assistants or Current registration by the AmericanMedical technologist or other formal program as specified in the TO. BLSrequirements in accordance with DHA PM 6025.13 Vol 4, the only acceptableBLS certifications are from the American Red Cross or American HeartAssociation, and the class must be a full, hands-on course.
Experience: One year of experience as a Medical Assistant after graduation.Pediatric experience and customer service experience is preferred.
Duties:
- Serves as a Medical Assistant performing a range of standard patient care procedures in an outpatient primary care or specialty care clinic supporting the delivery of patient centered care for newborn, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. The clinic settings may include, but are not limited to, Family Practice, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and other sub-specialty clinics.
- Prepare examination rooms prior to patient’s arrival.
- Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, transfers, and appointment scheduling as directed.
- Check patient’s vital signs, to include temperature, respiration, pulse, weight, blood pressure, and pulse oximeter reading.
- Obtain and document patient’s current medical history, drug history, chief complaints, allergies, and vital signs on the correct form.
