OVERVIEW:
The Certified Pharmacy Technician is processing prescriptions to patients ordered by the medical staff. Other duties such as administrative and bookkeeping task, inventory control, stocking shelves, and data entry Pharmacy Techs are detailed oriented and work well in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Accurately prepare and distribute patient medications
- Perform calculations
- Collect accurate patient information
- Process third party billing claims and assist with authorization completion
- Use technology to help maintain accurate patient records, medication inventory, and orders
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Supports pharmacological services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications
- Helps health care providers and patients by greeting them in person and by the phone, answering questions and requests, and referring inquiries to the pharmacist
- Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmacy stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed medications and supplies, placing, and expediting orders, verifying receipt, and removing outdated drugs
- Maintaining a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
- Organizes medications for pharmacist to dispense by reading medication orders and prescriptions, preparing labels, calculating quantities, and assembling intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapies
- Maintains records by recording and filing physicians’ orders and prescriptions
- Ensures medication availability by delivering medications to patients and departments
- Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information
- Perform any other duties that may be necessary for the operation of the corporation and/or hospital
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
- Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time
- Manual dexterity and use of a calculator or computer keyboard.
- Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting
- Occasionally lifts to 50 pounds
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal ranges
- Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours
- Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionization radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital and/or clinic environment
