Join Our Team as a Risk Management Coordinator!

Are you an organized, detail-oriented professional with experience in risk management, claims or insurance administration? We are excited to invite you to apply for our Risk Management Coordinator position!

In this role, you will:

  • Provide essential information and assistance to city staff and third party administrators.
  • Oversee general liability claims and maintain risk management records.
  • Research and compile various safety related reports.
  • Coordinate special projects and deliver responsible and complex technical and administrative support to management.

Schedule: Full-time, 12 months per year, 10 hours per day, 4 days per week (Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., possible nights and weekends).

Salary: Listed salary amounts indicate the first and last steps of the range for the position.
Exam Type: Open Competitive.
Probationary Period: 12 months.

The following are key responsibilities and exciting tasks, where every opportunity is a chance to make a difference:
  • Process general liability claims and incident reports.
  • Review and analyze contractual documents for appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Identify potential risk exposures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and analyze statistical information and reports on loss prevention efforts.
  • Assist in the development and revision of risk management documents and policies.
  • Organize and implement training programs.
  • Monitor all City liability insurance policies. Assist with annual policy renewals including excess liability and property.
  • Conduct safety inspections and ergonomic evaluations.
  • Develop, compose, and proofread a variety of documents.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Education:
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in public administration, business administration, risk management, safety management, human resources, behavioral science or a related field.
Experience:
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible and varied experience in risk management administration, including at least two years in, or working with, a governmental agency.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), or Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) certificates are highly desirable.

  • Principles and practices of risk management, claims processing, and safety training.
  • Data collection, report preparation, and business letter writing techniques.
  • Relevant Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.

Abilities:
  • Perform accurate risk management support work with minimal supervision.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Establish and maintain filing and record-keeping systems.
  • Build positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

  • Ability to work in both office and field environments.
  • Mobility to travel to various sites and use standard office equipment.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the City of Upland will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination will include a qualifications appraisal interview. Qualified candidates will be provided with more details prior to scheduling.
