Account Manager – Lumber & Building Materials


Position Summary

We are seeking a driven and knowledgeable Account Manager to lead business development efforts across the GTA, specializing in building materials such as lumber, insulation, cement, aggregates, steel, hardware, while also offering disposal bin services. This role combines strategic sales planning, technical support, and customer relationship management to drive revenue and market share.

Key ResponsibilitiesSales & Territory Management

• Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to grow market share and meet revenue targets.

• Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the GTA.

• Maintain and grow relationships with contractors, developers, municipalities, and other key stakeholders.

• Conduct regular site visits to job sites and customer locations to assess needs and provide solutions.

Product & Technical Expertise

• Serve as the subject matter expert on building materials such as lumber, insulation, cement, aggregates, steel, hardware, and disposal bin services, including drawings, specifications, and performance.

• Collaborate with operations teams to ensure customer service and delivery standards are met.

• Provide on-site customer support and troubleshooting when required.

Customer & Account Management

• Manage a portfolio of accounts, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.

• Negotiate pricing, contracts, and purchase orders in alignment with company policies.

• Monitor customer performance metrics such as credit, delivery efficiency, and purchasing trends.

Marketing & Business Development

• Support marketing initiatives including trade shows, product launches, and promotional campaigns.

• Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to inform product development and marketing strategies.

• Represent the company at industry events and professional associations.

Reporting & Administration

• Maintain accurate records in CRM systems, including sales activities, forecasts, and customer interactions.

• Prepare and present regular sales reports and performance updates to management.

• Assist with accounts receivable follow-up as needed.


QualificationsEducation & Experience

• High school diploma required; post-secondary education in business, marketing, or construction-related fields preferred.

• Minimum 3–5 years of sales experience in construction materials, with a strong preference for building materials such as lumber, insulation, cement, aggregates, steel, hardware, and disposal bin services.

• Proven ability to develop new accounts and manage a sales territory.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong technical knowledge of concrete and building materials.

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM software.

• Ability to analyze data and market trends to inform sales strategies.

• Self-motivated, organized, and capable of working independently.

Licenses & Certifications

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Working Conditions

• Frequent travel within the GTA to visit clients and job sites.

• Exposure to construction environments, including outdoor conditions and uneven terrain.

• Occasional lifting of materials up to 50 lbs and use of personal protective equipment as required.
