About This Position

Position Summary
Provides quality care to patients, families, and significant others in appropriate setting, utilizing the nursing process in management of health maintenance, health promotion, chronic, and acute conditions. The Research Nurse Practitioner acts as a national resource for the seven study site consortium of the Atopic Dermatitis Research Network (ADRN).

Essential Duties

  1. Leads the work of co-workers providing effective communication, direction, training, guidance and resources as appropriate. Provides input into and participates in the hiring and evaluation process.
  2. Acts as a national resource for the seven study site consortium of the Atopic Dermatitis Research Network (ADRN). Including troubleshooting protocols for other ADRN sites requiring a high level of clinical research knowledge involving NIH funded studies.
  3. Executes increasingly complex clinical research protocols involving multi-centers, and new interactions with NIH, the Statistical and Data Coordinating Center and other components of the consortium.
  4. Provides quality care to patients, families, and significant others in appropriate setting, utilizing the nursing process in management of health maintenance, health promotion, chronic, and acute conditions.
  5. Performs and documents the physical exam, takes patient history, gathers data from the medical record, reviews outside medical records, makes contact with referring physician(s), and develops an assessment and plan of care as specified above.
  6. Acts as a consultant to clinical research nursing staff, medical staff, NIH and the Statistical and Data Coordinating center for ADRN to support services in identification of and implementation related to specified patient problems or needs.
  7. Monitors progress of each patient and revises orders and care plans as needed and monitors test results. Identifies problems that may need special attention or more acute care. Takes 24 hour call for more complex protocols which in turn requires follow up and additional support.
  8. Participates actively in the development and evaluation of research-based programs in coordination with physicians, other coordinators, pharmaceutical company sponsors and patients in scheduling and processing of research protocols/procedures.
  9. Recruits and evaluates patient population for research protocols. Establishes a clinical leadership role for successful recruitment and performance of demanding ongoing and future clinical research protocols.
  10. Maintains patient database on eczema herpeticum and severe atopic dermatitis to successfully recruit them into complex research protocols involving invasive procedures and biologic therapies.
  11. Performs skin biopsies, microbiome sampling, blood drawing, skin tape stripping and new procedures as required by NIH.
  12. Responsible for compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements for assigned clinical trials.
  13. Assists Principle Investigator in applying for new research grants.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Education: Must have current Certification by a national certifying body as a nurse practitioner. Graduate degree preferred, but also required for all NPs who were not already on the Colorado Advanced Practice Registry as of June 30, 2008.
  2. Work Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of recent and related experience as a nurse practitioner required.
  3. Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Current Colorado RN license required, APN license required. Healthcare provider level CPR/BLS required every 2 years. Staff assigned to high-risk areas (Cardiology, MIDC, PCU, Infusion Room) must maintain either ACLS or PALS as appropriate.

Salary Range: $93,487 - $122,677
