Job Summary:
The Construction Instructor (Civil + Commercial) (Part-Time) is more than an educator; this role is a mentor, industry leader, and career coach for students exploring careers in the construction trades. This position supports both civil construction (infrastructure and site development) and commercial construction (residential/Commercial building) to prepare students for real-world job readiness across multiple high-demand pathways.
This is a hands-on instructional role, where students learn by doing in a real-world construction environment. The instructor will integrate essential employability skills into training, ensuring students develop the technical expertise, work ethic, and professional habits necessary for success.
This role supports students in building critical career skills, including attendance, teamwork, leadership, communication, accountability, and jobsite safety, while helping them earn industry-recognized credentials aligned to employment and apprenticeship pathways
Hours:
Skilled US will be hiring two part-time instructors to support training delivery across multiple schedules. Instructors will support one of the following blocks based on availability and program need:
Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM–12:00 PM, 1:00 PM–5:00 PM, or 4:00 PM–9:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a construction training curriculum (such as NCCER or WorkINRoads) aligned with Indiana State Department of Education standards and workforce credential requirements.
- Provide hands-on instruction in both civil construction and Commercial construction, including core safety and technical competencies.
- Deliver instruction that includes real-world applications in:
- Civil Construction (Infrastructure & Site Work): grading, layout, utility location, trenching, rigging, concrete, basic equipment operation, and roadway/site prep fundamentals
- Commercial Construction (Residential & Commercial Building): framing, basic carpentry, blueprint reading, materials handling, jobsite workflow, and construction math fundamentals
- Civil Construction (Infrastructure & Site Work): grading, layout, utility location, trenching, rigging, concrete, basic equipment operation, and roadway/site prep fundamentals
- Supervise and support students in a lab/shop environment and at construction sites, maintaining safety standards and ensuring proper tool use.
- Deliver and track student certification records to support industry-recognized credential attainment.
- Maintain and upgrade necessary licensure through continuing education.
- Represent Skilled US Adult Education and YouthBuild programming with professionalism and consistency.
- Establish and maintain relationships with area employers in civil and commercial construction.
- Support and oversee student work-based learning opportunities, ensuring real jobsite exposure and readiness.
- Collaborate with industry partners, unions, and community organizations to strengthen student career access.
- Support program alignment with apprenticeship and employment pathways, including employer expectations for entry-level hires.
- Maintain student records, including attendance, assessments, skills progress, and credential tracking.
- Assist with the continuous improvement of construction programming to ensure training remains employer-aligned and outcomes-driven.
- Collaborate with Adult Education staff to integrate technical training with academic instruction where applicable.
- Support management of program resources, including tools, consumables, safety equipment, and jobsite materials.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines for workforce training programs.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians (when applicable), employers, and school administrators.
- Support students in making informed career decisions and understanding trade pathways (employment, apprenticeship, postsecondary).
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and leadership development for students entering the trades.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the administration.
- Ability to obtain a Valid Indiana Workplace Specialist License, or eligibility based on 3–5 years of construction industry experience (Skilled US will assist in getting if not current).
- Strong working knowledge of construction fundamentals across both civil andCommercial environments.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and supervise students in hands-on training settings.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to build trust with students and support career decision-making.
- Ability to develop and maintain employer relationships.
- Verifiable industry work experience outside of education.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications used for instruction and student documentation.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development.
- Experience teaching or training in NCCER-based, WorkINRoads, and OSHA programming.
- CDL license (or ability to obtain one, Skilled US will pay for this).
- Experience in vocational education, YouthBuild, or workforce training environments.
- Knowledge of CSA, WIOA Title I & II, YouthBuild, and workforce training compliance expectations.
- Familiarity with compliance tracking systems and workforce development platforms.
- Industry & Vendor Partnerships: Support relationships with vendors and industry partners to ensure training aligns with Skilled US needs for curriculum, equipment, and workforce readiness.
- Community Engagement: Coordinate with workforce agencies, unions, and business partners to strengthen program outcomes and student opportunity pipelines.
- Support best practices for compliance tracking, credential documentation, and reporting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen student completion, placement, and retention outcomes.
