FOIA Analyst

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a FOIA Analyst based in the United States.

The FOIA Analyst will support a federal agency by managing complex Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests from initial review through final production. In this fully remote role, you will apply your knowledge of FOIA regulations and exemptions to evaluate records, identify responsive information, and ensure appropriate handling of sensitive or confidential materials. You will work with a high degree of independence while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with federal requirements. Your analytical and research skills will help ensure that information requests are processed efficiently and in accordance with established procedures. This opportunity is well suited to an experienced FOIA professional who understands federal information disclosure requirements and is comfortable navigating complex documentation. Although the position is currently remote, future arrangements may require hybrid or on-site work at a U.S. Department of Transportation office.

Accountabilities
  • Process complex FOIA requests from beginning to end for a federal agency, applying established procedures and relevant legal requirements.

  • Review, organize, and analyze documents to determine which records are responsive to each request.

  • Identify and appropriately handle confidential business information, intra-agency communications, pre-decisional and deliberative materials, attorney work product, and personally identifiable information.

  • Apply relevant FOIA exemptions when reviewing records and preparing information for production.

  • Ensure requests are handled accurately, consistently, and within specified deadlines.

  • Conduct research and analytical reviews to support informed decisions about document disclosure.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned in accordance with the applicable statement of work.

  • Maintain the ability to support potential changes in work arrangements, including hybrid or on-site attendance at a designated federal office.

Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience consistent with the applicable GSA schedule.

  • At least 5 years of technical experience processing complex information requests under FOIA.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of FOIA rules, regulations, procedural requirements, and all nine FOIA exemptions, including specific experience applying exemptions (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (b)(7).

  • Previous experience and proficiency managing and processing FOIA requests using FOIAXpress.

  • Strong research, analytical, and document-review skills, with the ability to assess complex information and identify relevant records.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with individuals at different organizational levels.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple requests and meet deadlines.

  • Working knowledge of computers and standard software, including Microsoft Word and Adobe applications.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

  • Ability to commute to a U.S. Department of Transportation office if the position transitions to a hybrid or fully on-site arrangement.

Benefits
  • Annual salary: $75,000–$91,000, depending on experience.

  • Retirement: 401(k) plan with immediate vesting.

  • Paid time off: Paid federal holidays.

  • Healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • Disability coverage: Employer-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance.

  • Life insurance: Employer-paid life insurance, with supplemental life insurance available.

  • Flexible spending and savings: FSA and HSA programs.

  • Education support: Tuition reimbursement.

  • Commuter support: Commuter benefits program.

  • Family support: Adoption assistance and caregiver support programs.

  • Employee wellbeing: Employee Assistance Program (EAP), health advocacy, and financial wellbeing support.

  • Work arrangement: Currently remote, with the possibility of a future transition to hybrid or on-site work.
