Description:

The Scrub Technician is a vital member of the surgical team, responsible for preparing and maintaining a sterile environment, organizing surgical instruments, and assisting surgeons during procedures in compliance with, but not limited to, Standards of Practice as defined by, AORN, ASPAN, SGNA and State Practice Act Standards, and organization protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to infection control standards, and effective communication skills to ensure patient safety and procedural efficiency. This position provides rapid response to nurse/physician/patient/family needs and requests.

Requirements:

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize the operating room equipment, instruments, and supplies as required for various surgical procedures
  • Anticipate surgeon and patient needs during a procedure
  • Take care of specimens, prepare, check, and monitor medications, and assist with dressings
  • Set up a sterile and sanitary environment, and maintain the sterile field for the patient during procedures
  • Utilize correct body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and/or tables in order to prevent injury to patient and personnel
  • Follow relevant safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Participate in orientation and education of all operating room staff on an ongoing basis
  • Participate in stocking and restocking medical supplies
  • Inspect, replace, and sterilize medical instruments as needed
  • Provide surgeons and patients with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment
  • Welcomes patients by confirming patient identification.
  • Participate in “Time Out” to verify patient name and site of surgery prior to start of procedure.
  • Demonstrates competency in the use of all equipment under the direction of the Physician.
  • Assists in the turnover of the rooms in order to maintain an efficient procedure schedule.
  • Assists in the restocking of rooms
  • Adheres to the center’s policies and procedures
  • Willingness to cross train to at least one other area
