JOB DESCRIPTION

Quality Engineer

Functional Area

Position Purpose

Provide quality assurance support to the production development team, resolving defects and other potential issues and ensuring that products meet customer specifications. Develop strong relationships with manufacturing to foster a positive partnership, facilitate resolution of customer and internal issues, and drive systems, processes, and continuous improvement.

Scope of Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead continuous improvement projects and execute changes and improvements to the quality management system.
  • Lead quality APQP/PPAP initiatives for new or changed products to ensure manufacturing quality.
  • Review design plans, process procedures, test procedures, and quality manuals to understand the scope, requirements, and function of products and issues.
  • Ensure that products meet the organizations and customers’ quality and product integrity requirements.
  • Develop SOPs for company processes.
  • Identify, develop, and implement systems and processes that ensure product conformance to specifications, including development of product specifications, procedures, and test methods.
  • Support product development and operations teams by providing analysis and expertise throughout the inspection process.
  • Identify root causes of issues in the production process; recommend and/or implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze data to identify trends in product quality or defects with the goal of mitigating and preventing future defects.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with federal, state, local, and industry standards and regulations.
  • Support and adhere to all system procedures and company policies/procedures.

  • Requirements and Competencies

    Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience

  • 2–3 years of related experience.
  • Technical Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Extensive knowledge of— or ability to quickly learn — the organization’s production processes.
  • Ability to interpret procedures, specifications, and quality-related documentation.
  • Leadership Competencies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to serve as a liaison with developers, project managers, and customer support.
  • Scope of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    Operational / Team KPIs
    (measuring process efficiency, timeliness, quality, and collaboration)

  • Product defect rate / internal scrap rate
  • Customer complaints
  • Timeliness and accuracy of PPAP / APQP submissions
  • Implementation of corrective actions
  • Participation in continuous improvement initiatives
