DUTIES

RESPONSIBILITIES

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a sessional faculty member who will teach one or two sections of EDMA 3100: Mathematics 1.

EDMA 3100-01: Tuesday, 12:30 pm to 3:20 pm

EDMA 3100-02: Thursday, 12:30 pm to 3:20 pm

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION

Teacher candidates develop a basic understanding of teaching mathematics in elementary schools. The course provides methods in teaching problem solving, numeracy, the use of manipulatives, early number sense, patterns, assessment, and operations with numbers. Participants also examine the use of literature and games in a math program and undergo a comprehensive study of the British Columbia mathematics curriculum. A variety of resources are provided to teacher candidates to experience the methods used to provide a rich elementary mathematics program.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree required.
  • A minimum of one (1) degree in education is required.
  • Three (3) years of full time or equivalent hours teaching in K-12 settings is required;
  • Current successful K-12 teaching experience in the content areas of this course is required;
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level is strongly preferred;
  • Experience as a Faculty Mentor or Teacher Mentor in K-12 settings is preferred;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills required;
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) required.
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) required.
  • Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) required.
Pay Band
$2,732.34 - $2,732.34 ( Sessional Faculty - Academic (per credit) )
