The Senior Software Engineer II will own high-impact engineering initiatives that improve the complete user lifecycle, from activation and onboarding to long-term engagement and retention. This role requires strong technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to design scalable systems in a complex environment.
- Lead the architecture, design, development, and delivery of highly scalable services supporting onboarding, eligibility, work evaluation, earnings, ratings, quality, recognition, safety, and retention experiences.
- Define technical strategies for platform modernization, domain migrations, service improvements, and engineering standards across multiple systems.
- Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science teams to define roadmaps, establish success metrics, and deliver impactful user-facing solutions.
- Drive experimentation and data-informed improvements to increase activation, engagement, and retention outcomes.
- Champion AI adoption by creating internal tools, automation workflows, and engineering solutions that improve productivity, testing, and operational efficiency.
- Integrate AI capabilities responsibly into development processes while measuring improvements in quality, speed, and reliability.
- Lead complex cross-functional initiatives involving engineering teams and business stakeholders across multiple domains.
- Improve operational excellence through observability, incident response practices, reliability improvements, performance optimization, and service-level management.
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, documentation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Promote engineering best practices that improve collaboration, scalability, and developer experience.
The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with a strong background in distributed systems, technical leadership, and building production applications at scale. They should be comfortable driving ambiguous projects, collaborating across teams, and applying modern technologies to solve complex problems.
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience developing and operating production systems at scale.
- 3+ years of experience designing and owning distributed systems with high availability and low latency requirements.
- Strong proficiency in at least two programming languages such as Go, Java, Kotlin, or Python.
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS or GCP.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with data technologies such as SQL/NoSQL databases, Redis, Kafka, or Pub/Sub.
- Proven experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives involving multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Experience integrating AI into engineering workflows, such as code generation, test automation, CI/CD improvements, observability, or incident management.
- Strong collaboration skills with Product, Design, and Data Science teams to deliver user-focused solutions.
- Experience mentoring engineers and improving team practices through reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with marketplace platforms, logistics, fintech, or other high-scale consumer technology environments is a plus.
- Familiarity with mobile products, experimentation frameworks, compliance-driven projects, or third-party platform integrations is preferred.
- Competitive compensation ranging from approximately $196,000 to $207,000 CAD, depending on experience, skills, and location.
