POSITION SUMMARY

The Category Lead, Small Tools & Consumables, owns the small tools and consumables product line across McCarthy. This role is accountable for building and operating a centralized, scalable program for small tools, safety gear, and general consumables that replaces fragmented regional yard behaviors. The lead is responsible for product line strategy, supplier programs, catalog design, financial performance (profit and loss), and service levels, working closely with regions, Yard Hub, Equipment & Logistics, Prefab, Solutions Integration, and 02S Finance & Internal Controls.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Line Strategy & Roadmap

  • Owns the enterprise strategy for the Small Tools & Consumables product line, aligned with 02S and Procurement pillar goals.
  • Defines and maintains scope, guardrails, standard work, and inclusions, and exclusions of the product line.
  • Develops and updates a 3year roadmap for offerings, vendors, technology, and process improvements.

Catalog, Programs & Suppliers

  • Builds and maintains a standardized catalog of tools, PPE, and consumables, including required and optional programs.
  • Leads supplier and distributor strategy, including RFPs, pricing, contracts, rebates, and performance scorecards.
  • Partners with regions, national programs and 02S to standardize brands, SKUs, and stocking strategies to support selfperform, prefabrication, and general conditions/general requirements needs.
  • Coordinate with Technology/Data teams to configure Source To Pay (S2P) catalogs and ordering workflows that route jobs through 02S programs.

Financial Ownership & Performance

  • Owns the product line P&L in partnership with the Procurement pillar lead and 02S Finance & Internal Controls, including revenue, direct costs, allocated G&A.
  • Build and manage the Procurement overhead model (labor, direct and indirect costs, 02S allocations, rebate economics).
  • Sets and delivers on AOP targets for utilization, savings versus doityourself, rebates, and operating profit.
  • Monitors and manages monthly performance by region and category and drives corrective actions as needed.

Project Lifecycle Engagement

  • Provides standard menus and rate cards to RSIs/FSIs and pursuit teams.
  • Ensures small tools & consumables are accurately represented in 02S Margin Plans, GMP strategies, and exhibits where it adds value.
  • Defines and refines directed buying rules and catalog configurations in Design to drive compliance and savings.
  • Partners with project teams during construction to route orders through 02S catalogs/ and S2P systems, monitors compliance, and resolves issues.
  • Leads closeout activities, including PO closeout, rebate reconciliation, final spend and savings analysis, and lessons learned.

Operations, Service & Change Management

  • Translates strategy into practical operating standards for regional small tools/consumables teams and Yard Hub.
  • Establishes and manages service expectations for projects including availability, delivery, substitution rules, returns, and repairs.
  • Supports the transition of regional yard small tools and consumables subdepartments into the 02S Procurement structure.
  • Designs and delivers training and playbooks for PMs, Supers, 02S leaders, Self-Perform leaders, and RSIs on the use of small tools and consumables programs.

Data, Technology & Controls

  • Partners with 02S Tech/Data to define data requirements and dashboards (spend by category/region, adoption, rebates, NPS).
  • Ensures accurate coding and structures (departments, jobs/sub-jobs, cost codes, home locations) to support reporting.
  • Collaborates with Internal Controls to maintain compliant processes for purchasing, approvals, inventory, and vendor management.

Stakeholder & Peer Network Leadership

  • Serves as the enterprise category lead and primary point of contact for small tools and consumables.
  • Actively participates in and helps facilitate the Procurement Category Leads cohort within the 02S Peer Network.
  • Coordinates closely with Equipment, Logistics, Prefab, and Professional Services product line leads where tools and consumables intersect.
  • Communicates performance, updates, and standards clearly to regions, national programs, and executive leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in construction, industrial, or distribution procurement, with significant exposure to tools, PPE, and consumables.
  • Proven experience in category management or product line ownership across multiple regions or business units.
  • Demonstrated success managing financial performance (P&L, budgets, forecasts, or category savings targets).
  • Experience working with field operations (PMs, Supers, Yard/Logistics, SelfPerform, Prefab) in a contractor or similar environment.
  • Experience implementing sourcing technology and analytics tools.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong strategic sourcing and negotiation skills including pricing, terms, rebates, and programs.
  • Solid financial acumen, with the ability to interpret P&Ls, rate models, and savings analyses.
  • Experience working with ERP/S2P systems, catalogs, and basic analytics/BI tools.
  • Excellent communication and change leadership skills; able to translate complex models into clear fieldready guidance.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and build trust with regional leaders, Yard Hub, and project teams.
  • Highly organized and executionoriented; able to move from concept to standard work at scale.
  • Indicative KPIs
    • Adoption of 02S-directed small tools/consumables programs (e.g., spend routed through 02S versus offprogram).
    • Savings versus baseline including, price, terms, and rebate impact by region and category.
    • Product line operating profit versus AOP, including G&A absorption.
    • Service levels to projects and regions including availability, OTIF, and NPS/satisfaction.
    • Reduction in supplier fragmentation, SKUs, and yardspecific exceptions.
