At The Gund Company, you will develop and improve thermoset composite materials, optimize manufacturing processes, and support technical projects across multiple facilities.

We are looking for a hands-on, curious, and driven Corporate Materials Engineer - Manufacturing who enjoys solving complex materials and process challenges, working cross-functionally, and turning technical ideas into reliable production results.


What You Will Do

In this role, you will partner with engineering, operations, quality, and plant teams to support high-impact composite materials and manufacturing process projects from concept through implementation. You will improve material performance, strengthen process controls, and help deliver measurable gains in safety, quality, yield, productivity, and cost.

You will:

Serve as a technical resource for thermoset composites, engineered materials, product development, and manufacturing process

issues

Support material development, resin and formulation adjustments, raw material qualification, testing, validation, and product

realization

Develop, execute, and optimize composite manufacturing processes, including pultrusion, resin transfer molding, compression

molding, and lamination

Establish and improve process controls, standardized operating parameters, work instructions, and manufacturing

documentation

Use process capability analysis, statistical methods, and root-cause troubleshooting to reduce variation and improve process

robustness

Support capital equipment projects, including specifications, statements of work, vendor bids, installation, commissioning, and

startup

Manage engineering change controls and communicate technical standards and best practices across manufacturing facilities

Analyze complex data and prepare clear technical reports, white papers, and recommendations

Lead or support A3, FMEA, Control Plan, Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC, and Green Belt continuous improvement projects

Collaborate with cross-functional teams across manufacturing, engineering, sales, quality, and operations

Requirements: What You Will Bring

We are looking for someone with strong technical fundamentals, practical manufacturing experience, and the confidence to take ownership of materials and process improvement work.


Ideal qualifications include:

Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related engineering discipline

2+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering, materials engineering, process engineering, or composites

manufacturing environment

Background in thermoset materials, polymer composites, engineered materials, resin systems, equipment, or industrial process development

Direct experience executing and optimizing core composite manufacturing processes (e.g., pultrusion, resin transfer molding, compression molding, or lamination).

Proven track record in process capability analysis, root-cause troubleshooting, and establishing standardized operating parameters for thermoset materials.

Practical application of continuous improvement frameworks (Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC) to drive yield, waste reduction, and process robustness.

Experience with process documentation, including FMEA, Control Plans, engineering change controls, standard work, or work instructions

Experience supporting capital equipment procurement, specification, installation, commissioning, or startup

Project management competency with strong organization, communication, and follow-through skills

Ability to analyze complex data, perform statistical analysis, and translate findings into practical manufacturing improvements

Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and project management tools

A self-starter mindset with a desire to grow, contribute, and make an impact across multiple facilities
