Description
Position Summary
Academic Urology is seeking an experienced, patient-focused Lead Phlebotomist to support and oversee the daily operations of our growing IsoPSA Program. This role is responsible for performing high-quality specimen collection, coordinating testing activities across multiple clinic locations, ensuring compliance with laboratory protocols, and serving as the primary resource for IsoPSA-related processes.
The ideal candidate will possess strong phlebotomy skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and a commitment to delivering outstanding patient care. This position requires regular travel between Academic Urology locations to support providers, staff, and patients throughout the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
Perform venipuncture and specimen collection according to established laboratory and clinical protocols. Ensure proper specimen labeling, handling, processing, storage, and shipment procedures. Maintain specimen integrity and chain-of-custody requirements. Provide compassionate, professional patient interaction and education regarding laboratory testing procedures. Monitor inventory levels of supplies and coordinate replenishment as needed. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
IsoPSA Program Leadership
Serve as the lead phlebotomist and subject matter expert for the IsoPSA testing program. Coordinate specimen collection activities across multiple Academic Urology locations. Train and support clinical staff on IsoPSA collection procedures and best practices. Monitor quality assurance measures and identify opportunities for process improvement. Collaborate with providers, practice managers, laboratory partners, and administrative teams to ensure efficient program operations. Assist with implementation of new workflows, policies, and operational initiatives related to IsoPSA services.
Administrative and Operational Responsibilities
Track and document testing volumes, specimen logs, and related program metrics. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and organizational policies. Assist in scheduling site visits and coordinating coverage among locations. Troubleshoot collection, shipping, and documentation issues in a timely manner. Maintain accurate electronic medical record (EMR) documentation.
Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or GED. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program. Current phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, NCCT, AMT, or equivalent). Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to travel regularly between multiple clinic locations. Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills. Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
Previous experience in urology, oncology, specialty care, or laboratory services. Leadership, training, or supervisory experience. Experience coordinating multi-site clinical programs. Familiarity with specimen shipping and laboratory compliance requirements.

Expert venipuncture and specimen collection techniques. Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Ability to educate and coach staff on clinical procedures. Problem-solving mindset with a focus on operational excellence.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout clinic environments for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Ability to travel frequently between practice locations. Manual dexterity required for venipuncture and specimen handling.
