This role offers a unique opportunity to lead advanced interconnection and transmission planning initiatives within the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) footprint. You will guide complex technical studies, provide expert insights, and influence strategic decisions that impact the future of the electrical grid. The Associate Director will:
- Lead and execute complex generation and load interconnection studies in accordance with ISO and utility methodologies, ensuring technical rigor and accuracy.
- Oversee model benchmarking and compliance with current and emerging requirements across multiple project types.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, staying current with regulatory changes, industry standards, and best practices in WECC interconnection studies.
- Enhance delivery frameworks, QA/QC processes, and technical standards to ensure high-quality, efficient project execution.
- Mentor and develop a team of engineers, fostering technical depth, client-facing excellence, and a culture of accountability and innovation.
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, translating complex technical findings into actionable insights that support informed commercial and operational decisions.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop new tools, services, and go-to-market strategies, and represent the organization in industry forums and technical publications.
Candidates should bring:
- 8+ years of experience in the electric energy industry, with direct experience in CAISO and the WECC interconnected system or similar consulting engagements.
- Hands-on expertise in multiple study types, including injection and deliverability studies, PSLF/PSCAD benchmarking, transitional cluster studies, and load interconnection studies.
- Proficiency in IBR modeling, load modeling, generation/load interconnection, transmission planning, and EMT studies.
- Strong command of ISO and utility interconnection standards within WECC.
- Technical proficiency in software such as PSLF, PSSE, TARA, PSCAD, and ASPEN; familiarity with automation tools (Python, C#, SQL) is a plus.
- Ability to link technical rigor to commercial strategy, with exceptional communication and decision-making skills under uncertainty.
- Proven ability to lead independently and collaboratively, working effectively with cross-functional teams and mentoring junior staff.
