Location: Peterborough, ON
Schedule: 12-hour shifts - NIGHT SHIFT
Reports To: Operations Manager and Operations Supervisor – Dispatch
The Operations Assistant – Night Shift supports the overnight dispatch operation to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services across the network. This role provides operational coordination, compliance oversight, administrative support, and real-time communication between drivers, maintenance, and operations leadership.
Working under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Operations Assistant helps maintain service continuity, regulatory compliance, and accurate operational documentation throughout the night operation.
Key Responsibilities- Complete nightly dispatch functions including confirming and updating bus schedules, multi-day trip tracking, and future coach assignments
- Support real-time scheduling adjustments and operational continuity
- Monitor driver attendance, sign-in/sign-out, and readiness for duty
- Communicate operational updates to drivers and leadership
- Monitor dispatch systems to verify vehicle assignments and coverage
- Assist with service disruptions, delays, accidents, and incident documentation
- Monitor compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and collective agreement requirements
- Maintain dispatch records, operational documentation, and shift handovers
- Support operational reporting, audit preparation, and team communication
- Perform additional operational duties as assigned
- Minimum 1 year of dispatch, scheduling, or transportation coordination experience
- Experience in a unionized environment considered an asset
- Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and dispatch systems
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced overnight environment
- Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset
- Fast-paced transportation operations environment
- Night shift work including weekends and holidays
- Frequent interaction with drivers and operational personnel
- Extended periods of computer and dispatch system use
