Sr. Director, Business Development

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Director, Business Development based in United States.

This senior leadership role is responsible for driving strategic growth across the biologics CDMO space, focusing on building long-term partnerships with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and life sciences organizations. You will lead high-value business development efforts spanning the full sales lifecycle, from early prospecting through contract negotiation and execution. The role requires a strong ability to translate complex scientific and manufacturing capabilities into compelling commercial value propositions for executive stakeholders. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including technical operations, program management, legal, and finance to design and deliver tailored client solutions. A key part of the role involves representing the organization at major industry events and strengthening market presence through strategic relationship building. This is a highly visible, client-facing leadership position in a fast-paced, science-driven commercial environment focused on innovation and growth.

Accountabilities:
  • Drive business growth and market share expansion within the biologics CDMO sector by identifying, engaging, and closing new client opportunities
  • Lead the full business development lifecycle, including prospecting, solution development, negotiation, and contract execution
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with biotech and pharmaceutical executives to support long-term partnerships and repeat business
  • Develop and execute sales strategies aligned with revenue targets, pipeline goals, and organizational growth objectives
  • Collaborate with internal teams including technical, operations, legal, finance, and program management to deliver integrated client solutions
  • Prepare and present proposals, negotiate MSAs, SOWs, and commercial supply agreements
  • Manage RFP/RFI/RFQ processes in partnership with proposal and pricing teams to ensure high-quality submissions
  • Represent the organization at key industry conferences and events to strengthen brand visibility and pipeline development
  • Oversee CRM activities to track opportunities, forecast performance, and manage client relationships effectively

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline; MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in CDMO or biologics/pharmaceutical business development or sales roles
  • Strong background in selling biologics development and manufacturing services, ideally with 5+ years of direct experience
  • Deep understanding of biologics manufacturing processes including cell line development, upstream/downstream processing, scale-up, and GMP manufacturing
  • Proven ability to build and grow strategic client relationships within biotech and pharmaceutical industries
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and executive communication skills with demonstrated C-level engagement experience
  • Experience working in highly cross-functional environments supporting technical and commercial teams
  • Strong business acumen with proficiency in Salesforce and Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to manage complex deals, multiple stakeholders, and long sales cycles in a competitive environment
  • Highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and adaptable with strong organizational and multitasking abilities
