Energy Technician III Energy Technician V
Operations | Electric Distribution
Position Summary
The Energy Technician III, IV, and V positions are responsible for performing skilled construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, and service-related work on overhead and underground electric distribution systems. These roles support the safe and reliable delivery of electrical service by maintaining distribution infrastructure, restoring service during outages, operating specialized equipment, and ensuring compliance with company safety standards.
Positions will be filled at the appropriate level based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, certifications, and demonstrated technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electric distribution facilities.
- Troubleshoot electrical system issues and restore service following outages and emergencies.
- Install, maintain, and modify electric lines, services, transformers, switches, and related equipment.
- Re-conductor, rebuild, upgrade, and convert existing distribution facilities.
- Operate utility vehicles, aerial devices, digger derricks, and other specialized equipment.
- Perform switching, dispatching, and system operations duties when qualified.
- Read and interpret work orders, maps, diagrams, and operating instructions.
- Complete required work documentation, operational records, and reports.
- Support crew coordination, job planning, and work execution activities.
- Mentor and train less experienced technicians and apprentices.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies and participate in on-call rotations.
- Adhere to all company safety rules, standards, and operating procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Energy Technician III
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 3 years of electric utility, line construction, or related industry experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver¿s License (CDL) and ability to meet company driving standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electric distribution system construction and maintenance.
Energy Technician IV
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 4 years of electric utility, line construction, or related industry experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver¿s License (CDL) and ability to meet company driving standards.
- Demonstrated proficiency in distribution line construction, troubleshooting, and switching activities.
Energy Technician V
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 5 years of electric utility, line construction, or related industry experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver¿s License (CDL) and ability to meet company driving standards.
- Advanced knowledge of distribution system operations, construction standards, and restoration practices.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities.
Equivalent combinations of education and related experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of electric distribution construction, maintenance, and service practices.
- Ability to safely work on energized and de-energized electrical systems in accordance with company standards.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, maps, specifications, and operating procedures.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to train, mentor, and provide guidance to less experienced employees.
- Working knowledge of utility equipment, vehicles, and specialized tools.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb poles and perform physically demanding utility field work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and pull up to 75 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to work from aerial devices and elevated work locations.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Work Environment
- Primarily outdoor construction, maintenance, restoration, and emergency response work.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, heights, traffic hazards, and energized electrical equipment.
- Overtime, on-call responsibilities, and emergency response may be required.

Pay level will be determined based on qualifications, experience, demonstrated skills, and business needs.
