Job Description
Position Function:
Developing, implementing, and managing the center's security program.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages and directs the operation of the center's security program
- Conducts investigations of accidents and incidents with the goal of resolution and reduction of future occurrences
- Provides written and oral reports, briefings, or summaries to the appropriate staff
- Establishes liaison and maintains harmonious relations with local law enforcement agencies
- Provides supervision, training, assessment, and leadership of security staff
- Manages and administers a departmental budget and works within budgetary constraints
- Approves requisitions for security equipment, supplies, and materials
- Oversees inventory control and maintenance of security equipment, supplies, and materials
- Plans, organizes, and controls the use of overtime and on-call staff to ensure compliance with center and ETR policy and procedures

Skills/Competencies:
- Proven management experience within the security industry, public sector, or armed services
- Proven track record of building strong relationships with colleagues at all levels
- Working knowledge of security best practices and legislation affecting the security role
- Ability to understand, control, and track direct spending and labor budgets
- Strong management and leadership skills together with excellent written and verbal communication
- Proven record of sound judgment and decision-making skills, with a "hands-on" problem-solving approach, able to remain calm, cool and collected under pressure and to take control of incidents
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently
- Proficient in using computer software such as the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree requirements on a year-for-year basis.
- Three years' experience in military and/or law enforcement, one of which was in a supervisory capacity
- Must possess a valid NYS Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
- Must possess or obtain a valid commercial Class B driver's license with a passenger endorsement within three months of hire

- Reading, writing, and communicating fluently in English

- Sitting, standing, moving about or walking for occasional or frequent periods of time
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, two-way radio and other office equipment
- Kneeling, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching overhead
- Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and/or lifting light objects
Working Conditions:
- Campus and general office setting
- Indoor and outdoor environment
- On-call for emergencies or as needed
- Work a flex schedule to include evenings and/or weekends
- Drive a vehicle, including a bus, van, truck, car, or SUV, occasionally in variable traffic and weather conditions
- Exposure to possible confrontations and fights
