Job Description

Senior Software Engineer I - Agent Foundations

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer I – Agent Foundations in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to build and scale the core systems that power real-time route execution, dispatch, and optimization for large-scale fleet operations. You will contribute to mission-critical platforms that process high volumes of geospatial and operational data, enabling organizations to move goods and services more efficiently and reliably. Working within a highly collaborative engineering environment, you will design distributed systems that support real-time decision-making and improve both dispatcher tools and driver experiences. You will also help shape next-generation navigation and logistics capabilities that integrate live contextual data such as traffic and weather. This position combines backend engineering depth with product impact, requiring close collaboration with product, design, and mobile teams. It is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex scaling challenges while delivering features used daily by global customers.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services that support real-time route tracking, dispatch, and execution across large fleets.
  • Develop and enhance distributed systems powering dispatch state machines and geospatial data processing at scale.
  • Build and improve web interfaces that enable dispatchers and fleet operators to manage routes and logistics from a unified platform.
  • Design and implement APIs and integrations with external systems such as TMS and ERP platforms handling millions of events daily.
  • Contribute to real-time navigation and routing features incorporating dynamic data sources such as traffic, weather, and operational constraints.
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, and mobile teams to deliver reliable, high-performance user-facing features.
  • Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance through strong engineering practices and architectural decisions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building production-grade systems.
  • Strong fundamentals in programming, data structures, and system design.
  • Experience designing and scaling distributed systems and high-throughput backend services.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage technical discussions and trade-offs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to estimate, plan, and deliver complex engineering projects effectively.
  • Experience or strong interest in routing, dispatch, logistics, or navigation systems is highly desirable.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a passion for shipping impactful features and iterating based on feedback.
  • Located in Canada or the United States and comfortable working in a remote-first environment.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary with additional performance-based bonus and equity (RSU) opportunities
  • Total annual base salary range: 187,000–220,000 USD (varies by location and experience)
  • Equity grants with ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance
  • Flexible remote-first work environment with optional in-office collaboration
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and parental leave coverage
  • Professional development stipend for learning, training, and career growth
  • Inclusive and supportive work culture focused on long-term impact
  • Modern engineering environment with complex, high-scale technical challenges
  • Strong emphasis on ownership, autonomy, and career advancement opportunities
