Job Description

Head of Design

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Design based in Canada.

This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape the future of a fast-scaling, multi-product digital platform that supports practitioners and patients across the healthcare ecosystem. The Head of Design will define how design operates at an organizational level, building the systems, rituals, and standards that enable cohesive, high-quality experiences at scale. This role carries significant influence across product strategy, user experience, and company direction, ensuring that multiple product lines feel like one unified ecosystem. You will lead both craft and culture, raising the bar for design excellence while enabling teams to move faster with clarity and consistency. Acting as a strategic partner to product and executive leadership, you will help shape decisions that directly impact millions of users. This is a rare opportunity to build and scale a design function during a critical growth phase, blending hands-on craft leadership with executive-level impact.

Accountabilities:
  • Define and scale the design organization’s operating model, including systems, processes, rituals, and frameworks that enable design excellence across multiple product lines.
  • Establish a cohesive design strategy that ensures a unified, end-to-end user experience across a complex, multi-product platform.
  • Build and evolve a high-performing design system and AI-enabled workflows that improve both quality and delivery speed.
  • Set and uphold a high bar for design craft, ensuring consistency, usability, and excellence across all shipped experiences.
  • Lead cross-product experience strategy, design governance, and alignment across teams to eliminate fragmentation in user journeys.
  • Drive talent development, career progression, team structure, and cultural standards across the design organization.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and executive leadership to influence strategic decisions and advocate for user-centric outcomes.
  • Stay closely connected to execution when needed, contributing hands-on to critical design challenges and high-impact initiatives.
Requirements
  • Proven experience leading and scaling design organizations within complex, multi-product digital platforms.
  • Strong background in defining design operations, systems thinking, and organizational design strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to shape cohesive end-to-end user experiences across interconnected products and services.
  • Experience working at executive level, with the ability to influence C-level stakeholders and challenge strategic assumptions.
  • Strong craft expertise in product design, UX, and design systems, with a high bar for quality and consistency.
  • Experience integrating AI-enabled tools and workflows into modern design processes.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop senior design talent while fostering a strong, collaborative culture.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision with near-term execution needs.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation package aligned with senior leadership responsibilities.
  • Flexible remote-friendly work environment within Canada.
  • Opportunity to define and scale a design function at a high-growth, mission-driven healthcare technology company.
  • Strong focus on professional development, leadership growth, and career progression.
  • Collaborative, people-first culture emphasizing trust, curiosity, and impact.
  • Opportunity to influence product strategy and user experience at a platform level.
  • Inclusive workplace with accommodations available upon request.
