POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant performs general accounting duties in support of the company's financial operations, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close support, and financial reporting preparation. This role applies accounting judgment to classify transactions, research variances, and prepare supporting schedules for review by the Controller. This is an office-based role performed in a manufacturing facility environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The following functions are essential to the successful performance of this position:
- Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries in accordance with GAAP and company accounting policy.
- Maintain the general ledger, including account classification, accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed asset activity.
- Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and research and resolve reconciling items.
- Execute assigned month-end and year-end close tasks within the published close calendar.
- Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare and review accounts receivable activity, including customer invoicing, cash application, and collections follow-up.
- Analyze general ledger account activity and explain variances to budget, forecast, and prior period.
- Prepare and submit sales, use, and property tax filings and related documentation as required.
- Prepare 1099 forms and other tax-related documentation as required.
- Compile documentation and respond to internal and external audit requests.
- Recommend and support improvements to accounting processes, controls, and system usage.
- Interface professionally and timely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and customers regarding accounting matters.
- Ensure compliance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS) guidelines and all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Follow all company safety, environmental, and regulatory standards and promote safe work practices.
- Adhere to established departmental policies, procedures, and continuous quality improvement objectives.
- Actively participate in and support the principles of Open-Book Management.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of general accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Working knowledge of GAAP, general ledger structure, and month-end close processes.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and standard accounting or ERP software.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with vendors, customers, and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently with limited daily direction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Infor CloudSuite Industrial (SyteLine) or a comparable manufacturing ERP system.
- Experience supporting internal or external financial audits.
- Progress toward CPA or CMA certification.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, which includes criminal history, financial/credit review, and drug screening.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is performed in an office setting and is primarily sedentary. The employee is required to sit at a desk and use a computer for approximately 98% of the workday. Occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting/carrying of light objects (up to 20 pounds, such as files or office supplies) may be necessary. The ability to view a computer screen, use a keyboard and mouse, and communicate verbally and in writing is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office/desk environment located within a manufacturing facility. Occasional short-duration exposure to typical plant conditions (such as dust, noise, fumes, or temperature variations) may occur when visiting production areas. No personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for the performance of essential functions in the office setting.
