This role offers the opportunity to lead critical compliance initiatives focused on payroll tax filing processes, regulatory requirements, and operational excellence. As a Project Manager Compliance, you will oversee complex projects that ensure accurate, timely, and compliant tax form approvals and electronic filing certifications. You will collaborate closely with compliance, engineering, and product teams to deliver reliable solutions and maintain regulatory alignment. The position combines project leadership, technical understanding, and hands-on problem-solving in a fast-paced technology environment. You will play a key role in improving compliance processes, managing regulatory changes, and driving successful implementations. This fully remote opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and solving complex compliance challenges.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead end-to-end compliance projects and initiatives related to federal and state payroll tax filing requirements.
  • Own payroll tax form approval processes, ensuring forms meet agency specifications, validation requirements, and compliance standards before submission.
  • Manage electronic filing certification projects, including agency testing coordination, validation processes, and approval workflows.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between compliance, engineering, and product teams to ensure successful execution of certifications and updates.
  • Review form changes, validate system outputs, troubleshoot issues, and support testing cycles throughout development processes.
  • Establish and maintain structured processes for tracking federal and state tax form changes throughout the year.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and proactively coordinate system updates to maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Document changes to tax forms, processes, and certifications to ensure visibility, accuracy, and traceability.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve compliance-related issues through root cause analysis and long-term solutions.
  • Maintain detailed project plans, progress reports, documentation, and status updates for compliance activities.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while ensuring high-quality execution of compliance initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in employer tax compliance, payroll tax, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex projects involving compliance, regulatory requirements, or operational processes.
  • Strong understanding of federal and multi-state payroll tax filing, approval, and compliance procedures.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic filing systems, certification processes, and agency testing environments.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, including engineering and product stakeholders.
  • Experience with payroll systems, tax filing platforms, or enterprise compliance environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with agency schemas, file formats such as XML or EFW2, and validation processes is a plus.
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to manage projects from planning through completion.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Benefits:
  • Competitive annual base salary range of $63,200 - $90,300, depending on experience, skills, and market location.
  • Eligibility for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance.
  • Fully remote work flexibility within the United States.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with employer match.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
  • Supportive workplace culture focused on collaboration, innovation, and employee success.
  • Benefits and perks designed to support employees, their families, and financial well-being.
