Job Summary:

The Controller is responsible for supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in the oversight and leadership of Finance and Accounting department operations including preparing and reporting monthly financial statements, accounting analysis, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and assisting with financial audits.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and employee expense reporting.
  • Oversees employees responsible for month end close, billing, collections, employee expense reporting.
  • Oversees compliance with internal control policies and procedures to ensure appropriate safeguarding of Company assets and accurate, timely financial reporting.
  • Oversees training programs and identifies training needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure of CBCMA.
  • Independently leads month-end close process, updates the CFO of the preliminary monthly results, provides potential adjustments, and finalizes results.
  • Interprets financial transactions and events for users who must make economic or business decisions. Present financial results to Company leadership on monthly basis.
  • Monitors system controls for ensuring data integrity and confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Collaborates with the FP&A Manager on the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Serves as a liaison to functional leadership across the organization, assisting them with accounting related service issues.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent financial management skills, including cash management practices (warehouse management, accounts payable, accounts receivable).
  • Must maintain a detail-oriented, investigative, and independent working ability.
  • Ability to develop and lead a small team.
  • Organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with mortgage banking accounting, including loan level accounting, hedge accounting, accounting for mortgage servicing rights and fair value accounting.
  • Knowledge and experience with Governmental Accounting Standards in a mortgage banking environment a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with Loan Vision or another mortgage banking accounting system preferred, including accounts payable, loan level accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with a diverse population of customers, agencies and employees both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
  • Seven or more years of related experience required.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Able to travel and work out of the corporate office in Salt Lake City, Utah on average one week a month.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:

Must be authorized to legally work within the United States of America.
