Job Title: Athletic Operations
Job Summary: Athletic Department

The Athletic Operations Assistant supports the athletic department's day-to-day operations and assists with game-day activities. This role involves a variety of tasks to help ensure the smooth functioning of the department, including managing equipment, preparing facilities, assisting with event setup and takedown, and providing support to the Athletic Director during home athletic contests.

The Athletic Operations Assistant will help coordinate logistics for athletic events, ensure materials and resources are ready for home games, and assist with administrative duties. This position requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and a passion for supporting college athletics. It offers valuable experience in sports management, event coordination, and athletic operations.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist in the preparation and setup for game-day events, including arranging equipment and supplies
  • Provide logistical support during games to ensure smooth operations, which may include
    • Ticket Sales
    • In-game monitoring
    • Liaison for visiting teams and officials
    • Scoreboard and/or music operation
  • Assist with breakdown and cleanup of game-day facilities and equipment
  • Maintain inventory and update of athletic equipment and supplies
  • Provide administrative support to the athletic department, such as data entry, filing and clerical tasks
  • Ensure facilities are prepared for and maintained for weights, practices and competitions
  • Provide general support for day-to-day activities within the athletic department
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
  • Schedule Flexibility- Ability to work varying hours, including evenings, weekends and gamedays.
  • Physical Stamina- Capable of lifting and carrying equipment and standing for extended periods.
  • Team-Oriented- Collaborates effectively with staff and supports colleagues during events and daily operations.
  • Self-Motivated- Works independently with minimal supervision and takes initiative to identify and address tasks.
  • Proactive Approach- Anticipates needs and tasks active without waiting for direction.
  • Leadership: Makes sound decisions and can lead small teams or projects when necessary.
  • Strong Communication- Interacts clearly and professionally with staff, coaches, athletes, officials and guest.
  • Detail-Oriented- Ensures facilities are event-ready, equipment is properly set up, and safety standards are met.
  • Adaptable- Remains positive and effective when handling last-minute changes challenges, or weather delays.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current SMC undergraduate with Federal Work-Study eligibility
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and some holidays
  • Comfortable lifting and carrying equipment and standing for extended periods
  • Strong communication skills and team-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Interest in athletics, event management, or sports administration
