Adjunct Instructor Horticulture at State Fair Community College – Sedalia, Missouri

Overview: State Fair Community College is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Adjunct Horticulture Instructor. This part-time role supports the horticulture track within our agriculture program and is based on anticipated instructional needs. The ideal candidate will deliver high-quality instruction focused on student learning and hands-on skill development in the horticulture field.

Essential Duties:

· Teach horticulture courses aligned with the agriculture program curriculum.

· Develop and implement effective lesson plans, lab activities, and hands-on projects.

· Assess student performance through exams, assignments, and practical evaluations, offering timely and constructive feedback.

· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized lab and greenhouse environment in compliance with college and industry safety standards.

· Collaborate with fellow agriculture faculty and the farm manager to support program goals.

· Stay current on industry trends and practices to enhance course content.

· Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum development as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Associate degree in horticulture or a closely related field.

· At least three years of relevant industry experience in horticulture.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.

· Previous teaching or training experience at the community college level preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in horticulture or a related discipline.

· Experience with controlled-environment agriculture and/or greenhouse operations.
