About This Position

  • Position Summary
    • The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program at Mary Greeley Medical Center is a post-graduate training experience. Learning experiences include General Medicine, Medical/Surgical, Oncology, Emergency Medicine, Pharmacy Management, Research and Scholarship, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Medication Safety. The completion of a formal research project is required.

      PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligibility for board certification, and eligibility for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

      Pharmacists completing this residency program will be competent and confident practitioners of direct patient care in multiple environments, equipped to meet the challenges of current and future pharmacy practice. They will be accountable for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes as members of the healthcare team. They will demonstrate a high level of professionalism by following a personal philosophy of independent practice, monitoring their own performance, and will contribute to the profession.

      As a Pharmacy Resident at Mary Greeley Medical Center, you will play an important role in helping patients get the care they need. You will be responsible for Pharmaceutical Services in various patient care settings. The resident is to receive training in various general and specialized settings while participating in patient care, teaching, and research.

  • Position Responsibilities

    • Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
      • Provide pharmacotherapy consultations as requested in practice areas
      • Prepare drug monographs or other information as needed for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
      • Attend hospital committee meetings
      • Provide education to hospital staff and pharmacy student learners
      • Participate in the ongoing review of drug formulary
      • Participate in performance improvement activities
      • Assist in the dispensing areas of the pharmacy as a staff pharmacist
  • Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
    • Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
      • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy
      • Active Iowa pharmacist licensure within 120 days of residency start date (October)
    • Organizational Requirements:
      • Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.
