About This Position
Position Overview:
The Underwriting Assistant (UA) collaborates with team members to achieve growth, profit, renewal retention, and service and producer/client management goals for an assigned book of business. While working alongside the Underwriter the UA will provide strong customer service to internal/external clients, gather, and analyze account information (loss information, driver information, financials, loss control reports, etc.), rate, and issue policies to deliver a superior underwriting product. The Underwriting Assistant will initiate the renewal process and ensure electronic file integrity. The Underwriter Assistant will also be responsible for processing endorsements within designated authority.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):
- Prepares renewals, new business and endorsement requests for the underwriter by gathering and evaluating exposure data.
- Screens transactions to determine proper processing. Refers to underwriters those transactions that require their attention; completes transactions directly if within delegated authority limits.
- Initiates and responds promptly to telephone and written inquiries about processing, policy changes requests, billing status, new applications, and ratings.
- Orders and screens miscellaneous reports needed in the rating and underwriting processes, such as Motor Vehicle Reports, loss history reports, inspections, loss control, etc.
- Provides recommendations of possible action to the Underwriters after researching files
- Ability to work in a hybrid working environment, with several days in the office and several days remote, unless an ADA accommodation is needed.
- Other duties as needed or required.
Qualifications & Skills:
REQUIRED:
- At least one year Farm/Commercial insurance industry experience in a multiline package underwriting or servicing environment
- High school graduate or GED
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills and mathematical aptitude
- Strong desk management skills, ability to multitask, independently organize work and prioritize competing demands and requests to complete assigned tasks within required time constraints
- Knowledge of underwriting principles, specific lines of business coverage, policy forms, and pricing tools
- Demonstrated proficiency in using online reference manuals and materials
- Ability to effectively and regularly use multiple electronic systems
- Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel
PREFERRED:
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and insurance systems.
- Insurance industry classes (CIC, AFIS, AINS)
