Imaging Extern at St. Claire Regional Medical Center – Morehead, Kentucky

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision of registered staff technologist, the extern will be responsible for performing and assisting with radiographic exams and related procedures for diagnostic interpretation. Participates in other portions of the role including patient history, chart review and associated paperwork. Upon completion of the externship, staff member should be able to perform routine diagnostic studies, track exam in Meditech, locate and view images in PACS, utilize AIDET during interactions with all patients, assist in patient transport, clean and restock rooms. These functions can cross any modality, division or location within the Department of Diagnostic Imaging. Adheres to organizational customer service standards and supports the organizational excellence initiatives. Provides positive and effective interaction and communication with patients, visitors, and staff. Upon completions of externship, the extern should be able to meet the minimum, basic competencies of a Radiologic Technologist.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Performs appropriate position competencies that aide the technologists in accurate, effective and efficient patient care.
• Transports patients and equipment within the department and cross-functioning departments in a safe and efficient manner.
• Understands general usage and knowledge of equipment within the department.
• Understands general positioning needs for routine examinations.
• Performs office procedures as necessary/requested.
• Utilizes department/hospital communication equipment and/or procedures.

Skills/Abilities: Effective interpersonal skills are required. Self-motivated; ability to organize and prioritize well; ability to remain flexible and to reorganize priorities when emergencies arise.

Education:

Currently enrolled in an accredited radiology program.

Licensure/Certification:

American Heart Association Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider.
