About This Position

The Internship Opportunity: Health, Safety & Environmental

The Port of Virginia – Virginia International Terminals is seeking a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Intern that will perform data analysis of safety data, assist HSE & Risk Management in transferring safety data from excel spreadsheets to Origami, assist in developing dashboards for HSE Presentations to safety committees, work with systems support to generate reports for Safety and Environmental teams, and assist in developing templates for Safety, Training, Environmental and Risk Management KPIs.

The Port of Virginia's 8-Week Summer Internship Program runs from June 2, 2025 - July 25, 2025, and is designed to develop, teach, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students as they explore career opportunities within the maritime industry. Students will have the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to hands on, project-focused tasks in various departments throughout The Port of Virginia.

What You’ll Do: Outcomes & Experience

  • Become a key member of a small team that will lead the roll out of a cultural transformation plan at one of the leading ports in the country.
  • Exposure to innovative ways of tracking KPIs in Process Safety and in Behavioral Safety environments.
  • Pull data from Finance, Risk Management, Safety, HR, and Labor Relations in order to generate reports that will help leaders develop plans to keep workers safe on marine terminals

Who You Are: Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled and in an accredited program or graduate program (having completed freshman / first year) during the time of the program.
  • Must be available to work full time (40 hours per week) from June 2, 2025 to July 25, 2025.
  • Must attach a resume and cover letter.
