Job Purpose/Function:
The cleaner is responsible for the daily cleaning and upkeep of buses, vans, and company equipment. This role also includes maintaining cleanliness in the building and on the grounds, which encompasses the Hub, Driver’s Lounge, and properties managed by NTD, especially during snow and ice conditions. This involves cleaning the interiors and exteriors of buildings, the Hub, the Driver’s Lounge, the grounds, shelters, and any other property under NTD's management. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed. Cleaner may be called to work outside of regular scheduled hours to assist with bad weather clean up to ensure NTD essential operations continue during inclement weather or comparable operating challenge.
Some examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Cleaning the interiors and exteriors of buses, vans, and company equipment involves various tasks. These include sweeping, vacuuming, washing or mopping the vehicle's interior, wiping down all surfaces, and sanitizing frequently touched areas. Additionally, it requires emptying trash bins, cleaning windows and mirrors, removing graffiti and gum, and picking up other debris. It's also essential to address any specific areas that may need extra attention.
- Maintaining the cleanliness of facilities and properties managed by NTD involves thorough cleaning both inside the buildings and outside across the grounds. This includes regularly replenishing consumable supplies and picking up trash or litter. Maintaining the interior and exterior of spaces like the Hub, the Driver’s Lounge, and any other properties under NTD's management. Routinely check outdoor areas to keep them tidy and promptly remove any trash or debris that may accumulate.
- Operate sweepers or scrubbers whenever necessary.
- Using pressure washers for cleaning engines and the undersides of vehicles, or in specific areas when necessary.
- Clearing Snow and Ice: Making sure that the buildings, properties, hubs, and shelters overseen by NTD are free from any buildup of snow and ice.
- Check and ensure the outside premise is clean, clear litter and debris on a regular basis.
- Other duties assigned by the foreman and maintenance shop manager.
Safety & Security:
- As part of daily duties, maintain the safety and security of the facility:
- Carries out safety and security policies and practices.
- Observes surroundings and records or informs the Maintenance Shop manager
- Ensures doors are properly secured
- Report any object that seems out of place in a vehicle or the work area
- Reports any objects that seem out of place while moving about the building
Contributes to a safe and secure work environment by being aware of surroundings and consistently acting in a safe manner. Remains knowledgeable about and follows OSHA, NTD, and other relevant safety standards, guidelines, and advisories, whether they are written or communicated verbally. Utilizes safety equipment and wears protective clothing as needed. Maintains a clean and organized work area to prevent injury to themselves or others. Promptly reports any safety or security concerns to their Foreman or Maintenance Shop manager, and offers suggestions for improvement. Adheres to building access protocols and ensures doors are locked when not in use. Is familiar with the closest two safety exits and actively participates in safety drills.
This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Education and Experience Required:
- Graduation from High School or a GED certificate.
- At least two years’ experience in the above work.
- Ability to work effectively in a lightly supervised environment.
- Ability to read and follow directions; to understand properties and safety requirements of working with cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with a supervisor.
- Knowledge and experience in working with cleaning equipment and snow-clearing equipment.
- Safe use of ladders and hand tools.
- Proper use of personal protective equipment
Physical Requirements: Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, crouch, and kneel. The member must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: There will be frequent interaction with employees and customers. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Work is generally performed within a maintenance shop environment.
