Job Description
Summary
Supports the Clinical Documentation Director in daily operations of the Clinical Documentation Integrity Team, and in mentoring and professional development of staff. Is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of the Clinical Documentation staff, including standard work and high-quality outcomes. Responsible and accountable for translating the mission, strategic goals and program priorities. Supports and maintains a culture of continuous process improvement as related to clinical documentation. Works in partnership with H.I.M. and compliance to assure accurate and compliant medical records through auditing and education. Responsible for day-to-day supervision, timecards, PTO, assists with hiring, answers daily case questions of the CDI Team, etc. Tracks KPIs for each team member and CDI program. Monitors progress of CDI team in capturing opportunities and prioritizing workload effectively. Attends collaborative meetings with other departments as needed to support documentation improvement projects. Educates and supports the team to deploy advanced clinical concepts to drive retention of learning and avoid regression. Ensures capture of CDI improvement financials and quality measures.
Education
Must obtain Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within three years of employment or will not be eligible to continue in the role. Coursework is completed outside of work hours. Nurses with an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) on the CDI team or, hired/rehired or transferred from a non-nursing position prior to 12/1/17 are grandfathered into the role and not required to obtain BSN.
Licensure/Certification
Must be an RN with current licensure. Certification in Clinical Documentation highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of 3 years of acute care nursing experience required including competence in computerized information systems.
Other Qualifications
Must have a broad base of clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology and physiology. Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Must be available to work flexible hours and possess strong critical thinking skills. Ability to lead and direct co-workers in a positive and professional manner. Demonstrates continued professional development. Strong working knowledge of information technology. Ability to work collaboratively to achieve desired outcomes.
