About This Position

This position is employed through Families and Communities Rising Inc. in an FCR Head Start/Early Head Start/North Carolina Pre-K (NCPK) classroom. The Head Start Teacher must demonstrate competency to perform functions that include: planning and implementing learning experiences; advancing the intellectual and physical development of children; improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy and phonemic, print and numerical awareness; improving their understanding and use of increasingly complex and varied vocabulary; improving their appreciation of books; improving their problem solving abilities; establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment; supporting the social and emotional development of children; encouraging the involvement of the families and; supporting the development of relationships between children and their families. General Staff Responsibilities: 1. Participate in staff meetings, attend conferences, training/workshops, and meet education standards as required. 2. Demonstrate familiarity with FCR Head Start/Early Head Start policies and procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, FCR Head Start/Early Head Start program mission and vision. 3. Maintain congenial and respectful relations with staff, children, families and community. 4. Keep current and accurate records. 5. Maintain confidentiality in regards to staff and family information. 6. Maintain professional standards and professional courtesy policies. 7. Actively participate in professional development opportunities and ongoing self-improvement. 8. Fulfill role as mandated reporter as stated in FCR Head Start/Early Head Start Child Abuse and Neglect Policy. 9. Be present at work in order to provide consistency of services. 10. Be a contributory team member in a positive and productive manner. 11. Flexibility to accommodate changes in job responsibilities due to changing program demands as requested by your supervisor. 12. Demonstrate commitment to FCR Head Start/Early Head Start mission, vision, and policies in the performance of daily job duties. 13. Work at scheduled program recruitment/enrollment events during the year as directed by supervisor. 14. Commit and contribute to ongoing program quality improvement through your role as it relates to the following program-wide systems: Program Governance, Planning, ERSEA, Communication, Record-Keeping and Reporting, Ongoing Monitoring, Self-Assessment, Human Resources and Fiscal Management. 15. Embrace advancing technology to improve job performance and productivity. 16. Commit to coaching as a cornerstone of program and staff development. Major Duties/Functions/Responsibilities: 1. Collaborate with the assistant teacher to ensure that lesson plans are well planned and implemented on a daily basis. 2. Arrange and maintain a healthy, safe, clean and attractive physical environment; setting up learning centers and preparing needed materials and supplies. 3. Serve as supervisor for Head Start Teacher Assistant/ Head Start Teacher Aide through leadership, completing Professional Development Plans and yearly performance reviews. 4. Physically participate and collaborate with the assistant teacher and aide to ensure that daily classroom and physical gross motor activities are well planned and implemented. 5. Ensure that two (2) home visits and two (2) parent/teacher conferences per child per program year occur and are documented in accordance with FCR Head Start/ Early Head Start Procedures. 6. Attend and actively participate in all staff meetings, recommended training programs and conferences, in-service training sessions and workshops. 7. Assist in maintaining on-going communication with parents concerning their child. 8. Maintain accurate files and other records: attendance daily count, lunch count, developmental assessments, and anecdotal records for every child in the classroom. 9. Manage children’s behavior in accordance with FCR Head Start/ Early Head Start Discipline & Behavior Management Policy in coordination with Health and Disabilities team. To always use an appropriate tone of voice and refrain from any negative comments to or in front of children. 10. Adhere to the FCR Head Start/ Early Head Start Policies and Procedures. Qualifications and Knowledge/Skills Required: Preferred Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Birth-K Certification • At least (2) two years teaching experience working with preschool age children in a high quality, licensed, early childhood program • At least one year Head Start/North Carolina Pre-K (NCPK) experience Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with Birth-K certification • At least (1) one year teaching experience working with preschool age children in a high-quality early childhood program
