About This Position

Position Description: Position Summary:
We seek a part-time dedicated and compassionate college intern to support our mission of
providing accessible and culturally sensitive mental health services to our members and their
families. The focus of this role is to assist the Wellness Center in enhancing the overall well-
being of our members, families, and the community by providing mental health support
and wrap around services including community outreach and referrals to licensed mental
counselors for further assessment and counseling as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Follow Massachusetts state and federal laws governing the practice of mental health
support.
2. Establish a welcoming and confidential space to address various mental health issues
ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
3. Provide individual and group sessions, utilizing evidence-based approaches and culturally
sensitive techniques.
4. Organize workshops, support groups, and educational sessions to inform the community
on mental health topics, coping strategies, and self-care practices.
5. Collaborate in developing and conducting outreach programs to reduce stigma
surrounding holistic mental health, promote early intervention, and encourage help-
seeking behaviors among our members, families, and the community.
6. Aid in establishing and maintaining relationships with local healthcare providers, schools,
and community organizations to create a mental health network and referral system.
7. Assist in maintaining accurate case management records of individual and group
sessions, participant progress, and program activities ensuring confidentiality and
compliance with state and federal law and organizational protocols.
8. Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity in all interactions, acknowledging and
respecting diverse backgrounds and needs of individuals seeking mental health support.
9. Seek and participate in training to broaden and strengthen your abilities to successfully
execute your responsibilities.
Requirements:
1. Current enrollment in a college-level program in psychology, social work, counseling, or
a related field.
2. Passion for mental health advocacy and supporting underserved and marginalized
members, families, and our communities.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with
individuals and outside sources from diverse backgrounds.
4. Commitment to HIPPA confidentiality and ethical standards in handling sensitive
information.
5. Participate in Professional Development training as necessary.
6. Participate in weekly supervisions and reviews.
Commitment:
Mental health interns are expected to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week for a period of at
least 4 months. Consistent involvement is vital to maintaining the welcoming and supportive
atmosphere we strive to create.
