About the Position

  • Position Title: Instructor, LEAP Program
  • Job Type: Contractor - 20 hours per week (Monday-Thursday)
  • Schedule: 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.(30 minutes unpaid break)
  • Pay: $30 per hour
  • Department: Social Enterprises
  • Reports to: Chief Program Officer (CPO)

Summary of Role

Reporting to the Chief Programs Officer (CPO), the Instructor, Language Excellence for Advancement and Progress (LEAP) Program delivers advanced English instruction for adult learners. The role strengthens learners’ ability to understand workplace communication, express ideas clearly, pursue employment and training opportunities, and participate confidently in their communities.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Instructional Planning and Delivery

  • Plan and deliver advanced English lessons aligned with LEAP objectives and learner goals
  • Build learners’ reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills for workplace, employment, training, and community settings
  • Teach practical language for workplace conversations, emails, meetings, forms, policies, training materials, and community interactions
  • Strengthen learners’ confidence to ask questions, explain ideas, solve problems, and advocate for themselves
  • Develop materials and assessments that reflect real-life communication needs

Assessment, Documentation, and Reporting

  • Assess learner progress through practical tasks, portfolios, demonstrations, and program-approved tools
  • Provide clear feedback that helps learners understand progress and next steps
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and learner progress records
  • Prepare learner updates and reports for Social Enterprises and organizational leadership

Collaboration and Operational Expectations

  • Collaborate with the CPO and Social Enterprises team to align instruction with program outcomes
  • Engage professionally with learners, employers, partners, guest speakers, and community stakeholders
  • Support learner access to resources, referrals, and community connections that advance language goals

This is a contract position, and the employee is responsible for all required taxes and deductions in accordance with applicable laws. This job description outlines the general duties of the role and is not intended to include every responsibility. The LEAP Program Instructor may be assigned other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, TESL, Applied Linguistics, Adult Education, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Must have experience teaching higher-level English language classes for adult learners
  • Strong understanding of adult language development, practical assessment, and advanced English comprehension strategies
  • Experience creating practical materials for workplace, employment, training, and community communication

Work Conditions

  • Regular interaction with adult learners, staff, partners, and community stakeholders in classroom, online, and office settings
  • Periods of increased activity related to recruitment, intake, curriculum planning, reporting, learner follow-up, and customized program delivery
  • Work involves classroom facilitation, computer-based tasks, learner communication, lesson preparation, and occasional program-related events or meetings
