About the Role

The Drafter independently prepares detailed electrical drawings and documentation for substation projects. This role applies drafting standards, interprets engineering inputs with minimal supervision, and supports project execution through accurate, timely deliverables. This position allows for on-site or a hybrid work schedule in any of our office locations: St. Louis, MO; Collinsville, IL; or Bettendorf, IA.

You will:

  • Prepare complete substation drawing packages, including one-lines, panel layouts, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and physical layout drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with client standards or apply BHMG standards when client standards are not provided.
  • Maintain and update drawing lists, ensuring accuracy, document control, and alignment with approved project deliverables.
  • Interpret engineering markups, design criteria, and standards to produce accurate, compliant drawings.
  • Update and revise existing (brownfield) drawings, resolving drafting inconsistencies and documentation gaps.
  • Perform plotting, batch plotting, scanning, and issuing of drawing and documentation packages.
  • Manage workload across multiple projects, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Provide basic drafting guidance and standards support to Associate Drafters.
Requirements:

Education/Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Typically, 2 or more years of substation, electrical, or utility drafting experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and practical experience may be considered.

Desired Skills & Attributes

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and MicroStation required.
  • Ability to consistently apply client and company drafting standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with engineers and project teams.
  • Ability to resolve drafting issues and meet deadlines on concurrent projects.

At BHMG, our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. The pay range for this position is $55,000 - $95,000 annual. This range encompasses multiple levels of the role. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range. This position is eligible to earn additional compensation including extra effort pay and an annual bonus incentive based on individual and company performance. Career level and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered.
