Job Description

About Instrumentum

Instrumentum is a national sterile processing partner. We help hospitals and surgery centers run efficient, compliant, and safe instrument reprocessing operations, so our partners can focus on delivering exceptional care. Sterilization is the only thing we do — there's no other service line competing for capital or attention, and the finance function supporting it works with that same focus.

Instrumentum is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

Instrumentum is hiring a Senior Accountant for our Long Beach, CA headquarters. $105,000 to $125,000 per year, depending on experience. Hybrid — 2-3 days a week on site.

No Controller standing between your close and the CFO.

If you've worked accounting inside a company with a full finance hierarchy, you know what it's like to prepare a number that gets reviewed twice before anyone who can act on it ever sees it. There's no Controller here. You report directly to the CFO, and the close you run each month is the number leadership uses that week.

This is an established general ledger and close process across all of Instrumentum's facilities. You'd own it — the reconciliations, the multi-state tax filings, the judgment calls on how something gets recorded and when it's worth flagging. The pace is real, and so is the autonomy.

What you will do

  • Own the general ledger across all entities and facilities: journal entries, accruals, intercompany transactions, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close in Sage Intacct, deciding close priorities and resolving reconciling items yourself
  • Prepare financial statements and reporting packages directly for the CFO, including variance analysis
  • Own multi-state tax and regulatory filings — sales and use tax, payroll tax registrations, business licenses, and franchise filings — across our operating states
  • Monitor multi-state nexus and registration requirements as our facilities and operations grow
  • Serve as our senior functional resource for Sage Intacct, including reporting, dimensions, and close configuration
  • Use advanced Excel, including pivot tables, to analyze large transaction datasets
  • Maintain documentation that holds up to external review
  • Support our external accountants and tax advisors
  • Recommend and implement process and controls improvements
  • Mentor accounting staff on technical questions

What you need

  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • 2-3 years of hands-on experience with Sage Intacct
  • Experience with multi-entity and multi-state accounting operations
  • Experience with multi-state tax and regulatory filings
  • Experience owning a full close cycle with limited oversight
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • CPA license — active or lapsed in good standing both qualify

What we would like to see

  • Healthcare services, medical device, or regulated-industry experience
  • Experience reporting directly to a CFO or VP of Finance, without a Controller layer in between
  • ERP experience beyond Sage Intacct — NetSuite, Workday, or similar

Who does well here

People who would rather own the number than pass it up the chain. Who can defend a judgment call on an accounting position without needing three signatures first. Who treat “no Controller” as room to work, not a gap to be nervous about.

The physical side of the job

This is primarily an office and hybrid-remote role, with extensive computer use. Occasional presence in production or warehouse areas at Instrumentum facilities is possible, with routine exposure to noise, odors, and biohazardous materials in those areas. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Pay and benefits

  • $105,000 to $125,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, effective the first of the month after your start date
  • Company-paid life insurance, plus short-term and long-term disability
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • 401(k) with a 50% company match on contributions up to 2% — you are eligible from day one
  • Paid time off that starts accruing on day one, plus 9 paid holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid every two weeks
  • Structured training and development support as you grow in your accounting career

Schedule and location

Hybrid, 2-3 days per week on-site. We will confirm your schedule during the interview.
