Position Summary
The Director of Nursing plans, organizes, develops, and directs the overall operation of the Clinical Nursing department to assure patient safety and attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each patient in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Post -Acute Solutions standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must be able to communicate with physicians, nursing staff, and all other facility staff.
- Liaisons with patients, families, support departments, etc. to adequately plan for patient’s needs.
- Maintains a good working knowledge of and is able to educate facility staff regarding OBRA and state-specific regulations, Medicare guidelines, standards or nursing practices, problem-solving, conflict management, and staffing in the facility.
- Evaluates nursing management systems to ensure that standardized systems are in place and organized in a manner that creates the desired results.
- Maintains communication flow within the facility as well with members of the Post-Acute Solutions personnel and ensures that report preparation is accurate and timely.
- Identifies and communicates the relevant issues or problems in a facility.
- Possesses certain needed skills to oversee Medical records, MDS, Care plan documentation, Quality Assurance/PI, Regulatory plans of correction, HCA and PCC
- Develops training programs based on trends and priorities identified in conjunction with Post-Acute Solutions
- Must have the ability to function as the clinical leader in the facility in the implementation and support of policies and procedures, established best practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Establishes and maintains goals and objectives for clinical services consistent with Post-Acute Solutions goals and objectives.
- Develops a working knowledge of managed care and sub-acute concepts.
- Maintains a proactive approach to the survey.
- Is able to identify systematic problems and communicate in a timely manner to the VP of Clinical and Operational Services
- Establishes working relationships with fellow team members. Exhibits empathy and approachability when communicating with others.
- Displays integrity and professionalism by adhering to Post Acute Solutions Code Conduct
- Promotes a culture of integrity, maintains an “open door” policy, and does not participate in or allow retaliation against those who report in good faith
Working Conditions:
- Week-end supervision responsibilities.
- Works beyond normal hours including weekends, holidays, and in other nursing positions temporarily as necessary.
- Subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, and infectious disease exposures, etc., while in the facility
- Subject to frequent interruptions.
- Subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, etc.
- Involved with patients, team members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, under all conditions and circumstances
Qualifications:
- Maintain a current Registered Nurse license to practice in Washington, in good standing without actions or restriction.
- Must have 2 years of supervisory experience in post-acute care or related setting
- Must have CPR certification upon hire or obtain within 30 days of employment. CPR certification must remain current during employment.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Experienced in the care of residents requiring skilled nursing care and services.
- The ability and willingness to complete on-going continuing education in accordance with State and Post-Acute Solutions requirements.
- Able to accomplish tasks by directing the activities of others. Practices firm but fair treatment of staff. Is consistent in decision making. Delegates appropriately. Resolves conflict effectively. Motivates and encourages staff. Welcomes comments/complaints and takes appropriate action. Remains calm under stress and is a servant leader.
Specific Requirements:
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to collect, analyze and manage data
- Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and email
- Must be knowledgeable of procedures as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to long term care in the State of Washington
- Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures necessary for providing ongoing quality clinical services.
- Accepts supervisory guidance and counsel and follows through as directed.
- Must perform proficiently in all applicable competency areas
- Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.
