Summary: The General Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of Savaria's Brampton facility. This hands-on role performs month-end close activities, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and budgeting support while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
Working closely with operations and corporate finance teams, the General Accountant contributes to manufacturing and inventory accounting, process improvements, and corporate reporting requirements. This role offers excellent opportunities for professional development and career growth within the Finance organization.
This position is 100% on-site in Brampton, ON.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General Accounting
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances from budget, forecast, and prior periods.
- Ensure transactions are recorded accurately in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
Month-End Close, Fixed Assets, Tax & Treasury
- Prepare and record monthly accruals and reconciliations.
- Maintain lease accounting schedules and prepare related journal entries.
- Download customs tariff and duty reports through the CBSA/CARM portal and coordinate timely payments.
- Prepare and post fixed asset amortization and depreciation entries.
- Process fixed asset invoices and prepare related capitalization journal entries.
- Maintain fixed asset continuity schedules and support capital expenditure reporting.
- Perform bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding reconciling items.
Foreign Exchange & Intercompany Accounting
- Prepare and record foreign exchange entries related to forward exchange contracts and foreign currency sales transactions.
- Perform month-end foreign currency revaluation of intercompany balances.
- Prepare and reconcile intercompany non-trade accounts, including advances and loans.
- Prepare cost recharge calculations and journal entries between related entities.
- Investigate and resolve intercompany balancing differences with corporate and affiliated entities.
Inventory & Manufacturing Accounting
- Assist with cycle counts and annual physical inventory counts.
- Ensure inventory transactions are accurately recorded and reported.
- Assist with cost accounting and standard cost maintenance activities as required.
Compliance, Audit & Process Improvement
- Support internal and external audit requirements by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and corporate reporting requirements.
- Support ERP system enhancements, implementations, and finance-related projects.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation completed or in progress is considered an asset.
- 10 + years of progressive accounting experience.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of inventory accounting and cost accounting principles is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of month-end close processes and account reconciliations.
