Responsibilities
  • Review patient charts to ensure all required documentation, test results, and orders are available prior to appointments.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure timely patient flow throughout the clinic.
  • Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical history, updating medications and allergies, and recording the chief complaint.
  • Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during office visits and clinical procedures.
  • Perform clinical duties within scope of certification
  • Clean, stock, and prepare examination rooms and procedure areas.
  • Schedule procedures, diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
  • Provide patients with pre-procedure and post-procedure instructions, including bowel preparation education and medication guidance.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Maintain adequate clinical supplies and notify leadership of inventory needs.
  • Follow infection prevention, OSHA, and HIPAA guidelines to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, and administrative staff to provide exceptional patient care and maintain efficient clinic operations.

  • Requirements
    Education & Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent nationally recognized certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire.

  • Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an outpatient medical practice preferred.
  • Previous gastroenterology, internal medicine, family medicine, or specialty practice experience preferred.
  • Experience using electronic medical records (EMR); ModMed gGastro experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and patient confidentiality standards.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

    Qualifications
    Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a college course in medical assisting.

    Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Experience working in a Gastroenterology practice is preferred.

    Requirements for Level I Status:

  • Entry level (1-4 years experience) and/or meet the basic requirements of the job with the need for additional supervision.
  • Excess of 4 years experience if meeting only the basic requirements of the job with need for additional supervision.


  • Performance Requirements:
  • Knowledge of health care field and EMR systems.
  • Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately.
  • Skill in written and verbal communications.
  • Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care practices and procedures.
