Responsibilities

Review patient charts to ensure all required documentation, test results, and orders are available prior to appointments.

Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure timely patient flow throughout the clinic.

Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical history, updating medications and allergies, and recording the chief complaint.

Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during office visits and clinical procedures.

Perform clinical duties within scope of certification

Clean, stock, and prepare examination rooms and procedure areas.

Schedule procedures, diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up appointments.

Provide patients with pre-procedure and post-procedure instructions, including bowel preparation education and medication guidance.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Maintain adequate clinical supplies and notify leadership of inventory needs.

Follow infection prevention, OSHA, and HIPAA guidelines to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.

Collaborate with providers, nurses, and administrative staff to provide exceptional patient care and maintain efficient clinic operations.

Requirements
Education & Certification

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.

Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent nationally recognized certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire.

Experience

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an outpatient medical practice preferred.

Previous gastroenterology, internal medicine, family medicine, or specialty practice experience preferred.

Experience using electronic medical records (EMR); ModMed gGastro experience is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a college course in medical assisting.

Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Experience working in a Gastroenterology practice is preferred.

Requirements for Level I Status:

Entry level (1-4 years experience) and/or meet the basic requirements of the job with the need for additional supervision.

Excess of 4 years experience if meeting only the basic requirements of the job with need for additional supervision.

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge of health care field and EMR systems.

Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately.

Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
