Position Summary

The Vice President of Organizational Excellence serves as a strategic enterprise leader responsible for advancing organizational effectiveness, performance excellence, learning, culture, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement across Methodist Healthcare Ministries (MHM). Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, this role partners closely with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and leaders across the organization to drive integrated solutions that strengthen organizational performance, enhance employee engagement, and accelerate achievement of MHM’s mission and strategic priorities.

The Vice President leads a portfolio of functions focused on organizational learning, performance improvement, culture and engagement, quality and compliance, and impact evaluation. Through these functions, the VP creates alignment across departments, removes barriers to collaboration, and fosters a culture of continuous learning, accountability, innovation, and operational excellence. The role serves as a catalyst for enterprise-wide transformation by connecting strategy, people, processes, and data to drive measurable organizational outcomes.

As a member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President collaborates with leaders throughout MHM to develop, prioritize, and implement strategic initiatives that strengthen organizational capacity and improve effectiveness. The Vice President champions evidence-based decision-making, organizational learning, and continuous improvement methodologies while ensuring that systems, structures, and processes support sustainable value creation and long-term organizational success.

The Vice President develops and executes enterprise change leadership strategies that build organizational readiness, strengthen adoption of new initiatives, and support successful transformation efforts. This includes assessing organizational impacts, identifying potential barriers to change, engaging stakeholders, and partnering with leaders to align goals, performance measures, and business processes with strategic objectives.

The role oversees and coordinates organizational excellence frameworks, performance improvement methodologies, learning systems, culture initiatives, quality and compliance programs, and impact evaluation practices. Through strong leadership and cross-functional partnership, the Vice President fosters an environment where continuous improvement, innovation, and mission-driven results are embedded throughout the organization.

Scope and Impact

The Vice President of Organizational Excellence serves as an enterprise leader responsible for advancing organizational effectiveness, continuous improvement, learning, culture, quality, compliance, and performance across Methodist Healthcare Ministries. This role is instrumental in driving transformational change, strengthening organizational capabilities, and ensuring alignment of people, processes, systems, and strategy to achieve mission-driven outcomes.

Decision-Making Authority

The Vice President operates with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with the Chief Administrative Officer and executive leadership team. Decisions with significant financial impact, changes to organizational strategy, major policy revisions, or matters affecting enterprise risk are made in partnership with the Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer and other executive leaders, as appropriate.

Interactions / Working Relationships

The Vice President regularly interacts with MHM’s executive leadership team, Board of Directors, employees at all levels, community partners, consultants, vendors, and other stakeholders to advance organizational priorities, facilitate collaboration, and ensure the successful execution of strategic and operational initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of an enterprise-wide organizational excellence strategy that advances MHM’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities while strengthening organizational effectiveness and performance.
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for Performance Excellence, Organizational Learning & Development, Organizational Culture Engagement, Impact, Evaluation & Learning, and Quality, Safety & Compliance functions to ensure alignment, integration, and measurable organizational impact.
  • Partner with Executive Leadership Team to translate strategic priorities into operational plans, organizational capabilities, and enterprise initiatives that drive sustainable results across MHM’s service area.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, learning, innovation, accountability, and engagement by implementing systems, structures, and practices that support organizational excellence and long-term success.
  • Develop and maintain organizational performance frameworks, dashboards, and metrics that enable leaders to monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, and make data-informed decisions.
  • Lead enterprise-wide performance improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance organizational effectiveness, streamline processes, improve service delivery, and optimize organizational resources.
  • Champion change leadership efforts by assessing organizational readiness, engaging stakeholders, addressing barriers to adoption, and supporting successful implementation of strategic and operational initiatives.
  • Collaborate with organizational leaders to establish, monitor, and continuously improve key performance, quality, safety, compliance, employee engagement, and organizational health indicators.
  • Guide the development and implementation of organizational learning strategies that build leadership capacity, strengthen workforce capabilities, and support a culture of continuous development and knowledge sharing.
  • Lead organizational culture and employee engagement initiatives that strengthen alignment with MHM’s values, foster collaboration, enhance the employee experience, and support organizational effectiveness.
  • Oversee quality, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement programs to ensure effective governance, risk mitigation, regulatory adherence, and operational excellence.
  • Direct organizational impact evaluation and learning efforts to assess effectiveness, generate actionable insights, and inform strategic decision-making across programs, operations, and initiatives.
  • Partner with Human Resources and other organizational leaders to align talent development, leadership development, succession planning, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness initiatives.
  • Promote enterprise-wide use of continuous improvement, project management, change management, and organizational effectiveness methodologies to support successful execution of strategic priorities.
  • Strengthen organizational data-informed decision making by collaborating with leaders to improve measurement systems, evaluation practices, performance reporting, and data governance processes.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, consultants, community partners, vendors, and other stakeholders to advance organizational priorities and support transformational initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Administrative Officer and executive leadership team on matters related to organizational effectiveness, performance improvement, culture, learning, quality, compliance, and enterprise transformation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational goals and priorities.

Supervisory or Leadership Responsibilities

Supervises the following positions: Director of Performance Excellence, Director of Organizational Learning and Development, Director of Organizational Culture Engagement, Director of Director of Impact, Evaluation & Learning, Director of Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Develops leaders through succession planning and creation of a leadership pipeline
  • Leads through influence across the enterprise
  • Shapes organizational culture

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Organizational Development, Public Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Social Work, Human Services, Nonprofit Management, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nonprofit, healthcare, public health, human services, philanthropic, community-based, or related mission-driven organizations.
  • Five (5) years of experience leading and developing multidisciplinary teams, including responsibility for organizational planning, performance management, and staff development.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational effectiveness, continuous improvement, strategic implementation, organizational learning, change management, culture transformation, quality improvement, or related enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Experience working across multiple functions and stakeholder groups to build alignment, facilitate collaboration, and drive organizational change.
  • Experience developing and implementing performance measurement systems, organizational improvement initiatives, or strategic planning and execution processes.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including community organizations, consultants, funders, government agencies, or coalition partners.
  • Knowledge of systems thinking, organizational effectiveness principles, continuous improvement methodologies, and change leadership practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity, community well-being, and mission-driven organizational outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with underserved, historically marginalized, or economically disadvantaged communities and populations.
  • Experience in health and human services, public health, healthcare, philanthropy, community development, or faith-based nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience leading organizational culture, employee engagement, leadership development, or workforce development initiatives.
  • Experience overseeing quality, compliance, risk management, evaluation, research, or organizational learning functions.
  • Experience designing and implementing enterprise-wide change management and transformation strategies.
  • Certification or advanced training in Lean, Six Sigma, Project Management, Change Management, Organizational Development, Baldrige, Results-Based Accountability, or other organizational excellence methodologies.
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health, community-centered approaches, collective impact frameworks, and equitable philanthropic practices.
  • Experience working with governing boards, executive leadership teams, and complex stakeholder environments.

Technology and Tools

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and related collaboration tools.
  • Ability to utilize business intelligence, reporting, and data visualization tools to analyze organizational performance, monitor key metrics, and support data-informed decision-making.
  • Experience working with project management, workflow management, and collaboration platforms to support strategic initiatives, organizational change, and cross-functional work.
  • Experience using learning management systems (LMS), employee engagement platforms, survey tools, and knowledge management systems to support organizational learning and culture initiatives.
  • Familiarity with quality improvement, performance management, compliance, evaluation, and risk management systems and technologies.
  • Ability to leverage technology to improve organizational effectiveness, streamline processes, enhance collaboration, and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies, systems, and digital tools that support organizational excellence and strategic objectives.
  • Experience interpreting and utilizing data from multiple information systems to evaluate organizational performance, identify trends, and inform strategic and operational decisions.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is exposed to an office environment. May occasionally be exposed to clinical/patient care environment. Position necessitates bending, stooping, twisting, turning, walking, climbing step stools, sitting and standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and maneuver 25 pounds.

May require frequent in-town travel and some travel throughout the MHM service area. May require some evening and weekend hours.
