Description
The purpose of this position is to enable the SpECTRE numerical relativity code to successfully use a domain based on cylinders instead of deformed cubes to simulate two black holes as they inspiral, merge, and ringdown, enabling the Cal State Fullerton numerical-relativity group and other institutions in the Simulating eXtreme Spacetimes (SXS) Collaboration to perform precision benchmarks and comparisons with the Spectral Einstein Code (SpEC), which uses a domain based on cylinders; these models are necessary for future gravitational-wave observatories, such as Cosmic Explorer.
*Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.
Essential Duties- Design, implement, document, and test code that enables SpECTRE to successfully use a domain based on cylinders instead of deformed cubes to simulate two black holes as they inspiral, merge, and ringdown.
- Submit this code for inclusion in the main SpECTRE code repository using the GitHub pull request workflow.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Familiarity with C++-20, python.
- Minimum six (6) months of experience contributing to the development of a numerical-relativity code that uses a spectral-type method to evolve binary black holes with excision.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
